Prompt Pages 0038: Places

Standard

“Beach, mountain, forest,
or somewhere else entirely?”

I have been here before. This is where I go.

This is my home. My forest. My cave.

This is the forest I used to walk when I was younger, as a young girl still naive and innocent. In those days there were birds, sweet as they flew from branch to branch. Water would trickle over rocks in the streams, sunlight glittering off of the moving surface.

This is the forest I walked through the years of my adolescence. The forest where the trees died and were barren, sleeping while winter raged. The coldness of hatred, self-contempt, and depression killing any green which dared to grow. The rivers and streams frozen over into stillness, their silence so loud it was deafening.

No birds sang. No colorful feathers were there to break the bleak whiteness of nothingness. Crows occasionally would alight on the skeletal fingers reaching for the sky, peering down at me while I stumbled over the roots buried in the snow. Falling down, scrapping my palms and hands, the red of my blood, the only color, a glaring, striking contrast.

And always this biting cold, numbing my fingers, toes, creeping up my limbs to my chest where my heart beat slower and slower. My mind begging to stop, but for some reason my heart refusing to rest.

It is the same forest I am in now.

The trees I walk by are so thick that no arms could ever hope to wrap around their trunks. They stand so tall in their wisdom that I must crane my neck backwards to see even the lowest of their branches. The streams once again babble, and birds sound their songs as they fly, streaking color across the lush green canopy above me.

There are deer, and squirrels, and rabbits.

And in the heart of this sacred place is a cave.

My cave.

The one that used to be filled with ice. The one I found during that winter. The one where I curled up, hugging my knees, crying out my desperation, frustration, and hurt.

Through everything this place has stayed with me, Mother Nature cradled me here, holding me while I raged and screamed and question why? Why! Why all of this pain, all of this hurt! Why me and not someone else?

Why not fairness, why not justice!

Why, why must I feel this way? Why must I feel it all so deeply? So intensely?

Always why, this unanswered question screaming through every fiber of my body. Always this question that the forest, the cave, had no answer for.

And through it all, Nature held me. She didn’t tell me to stop, to grow up. She didn’t tell me that what I felt was wrong. She didn’t say anything at all. She was silent. She shared in my pain, her landscape dying with me.

She held me while I broke and shattered, and didn’t think less of me. She let me express fully until there was nothing left to express. Until I was empty of the poison that was sadness and depression.

And through the destruction of Winter, Spring came.

She was small at first, soft. Water dripping, the sound hardly noticeable over my ragged breathing. And then a warm breeze, brushing over my matted hair and tear stained cheeks.

Slowly, so slowly I became aware of things other than myself, my pain, because slowly I became aware that the pain was less. Less consuming, less intense. Slowly I could see and focus on something outside of myself.

And then I saw it. Sunlight filtering through my cave’s opening, soft golden rays, the barest touch of warmth, but there none the less. It hurt to move, but I wanted to see it fully, I wanted to feel it fully, and so I crawled, on hands and knees, ignoring the pain of the rocks biting into my skin, to the opening.

I didn’t go out. But I watched. I watched the forest come back to life. The snow melting, the grass growing back to claim the ground, the buds changing the bones of trees to a vibrant canvas.

I watched and breathed. I grew stronger, and eventually, one day, I stood.

There was fear. The cave was safe. The cave was so familiar. For years I had stayed here. Part of me screamed to stay, to not leave. Leaving would be dangerous. Out there was the unknown. Things had changed. Stay where it is familiar.

But no. I wanted to explore, I wanted to know, I wanted to experience, and so I stood. I stepped out into my world, observing things through new eyes. Appreciating things the child had not been able to comprehend and that the adolescent had been blind to.

I am here now, in my forest. It is summer. It is lush and full, and I am standing before the opening of my cave. I still come here sometimes when I need solitude. When I need to be alone and embraced by Nature’s arms, comforted by her silent understanding.

There is no longer ice inside, no longer coldness. There is gentle warmth, an earthy rich scent that comforts me and surrounds me like a blanket.

No matter where I travel, or how far I go, I always come back to this forest. This cave.

This is where I go. This is my home.

Musing Moments 0013: 30 Day Challenge – Day 5

Standard

So far I’ve done some pretty intense mental cleaning and organizing.

Day 1: I evaluated the areas my life and figured out which areas are out of balance.

Day 2 : I figured out what my intrinsic and key priorities are. I also figured out what actions would honor and dishonor my key priority.

Day 3 : I made a list of the goals I have floating around in my head.

Day 4 : I figured out what my push goal is so I could start accomplishing the things I want

And here we are, at day 5.

Today is an accountability day. Today is where I stand up, clear my throat, and publicly state my intentions. I wait, standing before my podium, the microphone leaning forward to capture my words as I breathe through the excitement, the anxiety. The fear and exhilaration.

Adrenaline courses through me as I picture this in my mind, as I stare at the computer screen and the words flowing from my fingers, the clicks of the keys echoing, tapping out my statements and convictions.

Today I take everything that I have written previously, and I form it into a hard, solid statement of determination.

Today I make it a promise.

Such a small word, promise. Such an easy one to toss around, like love, like forever. Words used so often now that they seem to have no meaning. Society has made them empty, stripped them of their binding power.

Not for me, though. For me those words are everlasting. They are oaths. They invoke and ancient force which cannot be broken.

Today I make a promise not just to myself, but to the people in my life who matter. I make my intentions a promise to my family, to my friends, to my Facebook, to my blog. I make a promise to anyone and everyone who will listen.

This is more than accountability for me. This is more than “I really aught to do it because people will be disappointed if I break my ‘promise’.”

No. I am a warrior. This is my word. This is my integrity.

This is my honor I am placing before the world. The core of who I am.

And so here I stand, in my mind, in front of the world, the Internet, people I know and love along with strangers who are merely curious. Here I stand and give my battle cry and charge into battle, sword raised in righteous fervor, victory the only outcome I will acknowledge, I will accept. Upholding my honor to the very end.

Push Goal Promise

I promise to complete at least ONE
personal, career related project each week
for the remainder of the year.

This will allow for me to grow my Youtube channel, which will result in additional income making it easier to reach the financial goals I have.

Creating new content will help hone my current skills, foster the growth of new ones, and improve my current workflow. Working on new projects will give me professional quality work to create new demo reels, which will replace the college student work I am still displaying on my website.

I promise to complete at least ONE
personal craft project each month
for the remainder of the year.

By doing this I will be honoring my need for solitude and recovery. I will be creating content, which can be sold for additional income online or through various art shows. Completing these projects will help keep me balanced between my work and personal life.

I promise that I will make
these TWO goals a priority.

I will not dishonor them by considering other tasks more important. I will not compromise on these two goals because of the sheer potential contained within them.

I promise to keep my promises.

Artist Statement

The word strong invokes the word strength.

Strength, for me, is very internal. I think of it more as a trait rather than an outward display of brawn.

Strength is what we have when we endure the hardships of life. Strength is what makes us unbreakable. Strength is what allows us to holdfast to the things that are important to us.

Our strength allows us to feel pride in the things we accomplish. Strength gives us the will power to chase our dreams and goals. Strength is what allows us to act upon our determination.

Strength is subtle. It is something working behind the scenes, enabling all other things to happen. Strength is quiet, calm; present but never seen.

Strength is not force, or effort. Strength stands like a pillar and allows things to flow around it, weathering the trials and tribulations. Strength is a beacon to turn to when all other attributes have failed.

We may not have made it through unscathed, but at least we were strong. We had our strength to carry us to the end.

I wanted to capture the subtleness, the grace, the internal acceptance, in which I view strength. I wanted to show how gentle and soft spoken strength can be. To do this I used the King Pigeon pose from yoga.

A common misconception is that yoga is only about relaxing and mediation. To an extent those elements are involved, however, most yoga poses take a fair amount of muscle tone. Poses can be held for minutes at a time, working endurance as well as flexibility. Yoga subtly makes a person stronger, and the stronger you become the more advanced variations of poses you can strive to preform.

While the King Pigeon pose appears graceful, calm, and “easy”, it is actually an extremely advanced and difficult pose to hold. It requires an intense amount of core strength to keep the body balanced and in an upright position, which is not immediately noticed when observing the pose. It is not until a person tries to preform the pose that the true extent of what is required is fully comprehended.

I felt this pose, specifically, embodied my vision of strength. There is calmness, balance, and peace; an inner harmony and self-acceptance. But there is also focus, potential, and determination.

There is a will to not back down, to not give in, to holdfast until you can hold no longer.

For me, this is strength.

Daily Post 0070: Back to Being Productive

Standard

Oh man. Back to being tired, mentally and physically.

I biked this morning. 10ish miles. It was a good spin class and I’m glad I went.

When my alarm went off at 7 I thought about not going, but I couldn’t go back to sleep. So instead I packed up my notebook and went to the grocery store. I came home made breakfast, put the food away and still had time to start pondering over my 30 Day Challenge assignment.

Then it was off to the gym, which rocked, then back home. I cooked my meals for this coming week. Yay for being back 100% to my routine. I completed the brainstorming for this weeks assignments.

The IF word for this week is “Strong”. I will be posting my concept drawing either tonight or tomorrow. Depends on how awake I am after this post.

It took me a while to do the post of my goals today. There’s a lot of thinking and analyzing that goes along with day 4 of the 30 Day Challenge, but I think it was time that I needed to invest. I such a clearer idea of what I should be doing and where I’m going now.

I went to the dojo for taekwondo today. Sensei Mike was running a little late but class was awesome. We ran through all of the punches, kicks, and the first form all in the same class.

I really, really need to brush up on the kicks. Though I finally know the difference between a round house and a side kick. One you load from behind, the other you load from the front.

I came home, ate, replied to an amazing post from one of the blogs I follow, showered, then went to school. Rebeca had messaged me about an issue she was having with a rig. I took a look at the file, but it was one of those things that would be easier to talk about in person.

So we made plans to meet at school at 8:30, which we did. We chatted for a little while since she had been out of town. Her family is doing well and she enjoyed her trip.

We talked about the rig, and since I still had things I wanted to get done I came upstairs to work, which is where I’m currently at.

I forgot to mention that I worked on my script a bit (less than 30 minutes) before going to the dojo. It now pulls all of the information I need from the interface. So I have all of that being stored in variables. Now it’s just tweaking the code I have to work with them.

If I weren’t so tired I would finish off the script tonight, but right now I don’t think I would code a print statement to save my life.

I began working on an animation for Tre. Not sure if I mentioned that (you would think I would remember everything I just got done reading for my weekly recap). He has a mech that he rigged that I’m going to be doing something for. As it gets done I’ll post it.

I posted my IF Challenge stuff to ConceptShare, so that’s nice and done with. I’ve also already completed the discussion post, another thing I did earlier in the day.

Oh. My instructor really liked my Path image. He said he had wished I had done a statement for the image explaining what it meant for me. So I sent him this reply.

For me the story is of the girl, walking through life and creating her reality. She is looking back, reflecting on where she has been and what she was able to create through her journey.

The ‘water’ in my life is the emotional support I get from my family and friends. My relationships and connections with others helps me grow; much the way water nurtures and sustains the earth. I wanted the river to represent that.

Without the river the land would be a barren wasteland, and without the support of the people closest to me I would not be where I am at today. They are part of the path I am on.

Maybe a little overly deep, but I extremely enjoyed this project. It was my first full digital painting in Photoshop.

I made a B even though it was late.

I think that’s about it for my day. Just finishing up with some WordPress. I finally got around to writing a Weekly Saga. And I’m done with my daily post it seems.

Now to go home and eat since I’ve been ignoring how hungry I am in favor of writing. Since I’ll be awake from the drive home and food I’ll most likely stitch and listen to my book. That will be nice since I’m supposed to do that for an hour everyday.

Weekly Saga 0009: Make Ups and Breakdowns

Standard

So this is that moment where I realize just how much has happened since my last recap and how much I have written…

It’s that moment where there’s so much to read I sort of want to throw my hands up and be like, “Nope.”

But alas, I feel I need to do this.

It doesn’t seem like a lot happened over the past almost two weeks (because I’m a slacker was haven’t been consistent with my recaps). A lot of the events listed are pretty heavy events, though.

 Main Events

Switched phone over to MetroPCs
Looked at the room at Ashley’s house
Figured out Google Hangouts
Reached 100 followers (you’re all amazing <3)
Wrote my first Occupy Daily Prompt post

Began 30 Day Challenge
Began work on Tre’s present
Had an emotional break down
Passed out at Friendly Confines
Hung out with Tre and Joel on Friday

Talked to Sir on Saturday
Ran a 16 minute mile
Worked on gladiator rig
Revamped main section of Curves Tool

Overall not bad I guess. A lot of heavy events. Still, I’m going to hop that this coming week is a bit more productive with less breakdowns and EMS adventures.

Musing Moments 0012: 30 Day Challenge – Day 4

Standard

I mentioned ‘push goals’ yesterday. Which, naturally, begs the question, what is a push goal?

Remember that giant list of goals I made yesterday? Well, on that list there is one goal, one thing that if I accomplish it, will make all of the other goals infinitely easier. Most of the time it’s not the coolest, most exciting, goal. It’s usually not the ‘important’ goal, the one I want the most.

The push goal is something different. It’s normally the little domino at the front of a long chain. Knock that one domino down and all the others start to fall down by default.

So today is about figuring out which goal is my domino. Which goal factors into other goals? Which goal is a catalyst for my other ambitions?

Once I figure that out, once I know my push goal, I’m supposed to write about what it will feel like to accomplish it.

I’m supposed to envision it. What will I do once I reach my goal? What will it feel like? What will it take to reach it?

Where am I currently at in relation to this goal? What’s my start point? And where is the end point? Where do I want to be by the end of all of this?

I have picked two goals to be my push goals. For me, they are both pretty important because they factor into literally every other goal that I made in some way. They also complete different areas of my life which I feel will help keep me balanced.

My mind was pretty blown away when I was done analyzing my list. So here’s the results.

My Push Goal(s)

Complete 1 Work Project Each Week

By completing one project each week, a script, a podcast, a rig or other asset, I will be working towards, literally, seven other goals. No joke.

By sticking with this goal I will be advancing on “Earning $500 from my Youtube channel” because I will be creating new content, which will generate more views and followers.

Since creating rigs counts as a work project, I would be able to take care of my “Create 5 new rigs” goal, which helps me accomplish the goal “Create a new demo reel”.

Other projects could be shading and lighting endeavors, which would knock out “Create 5 Shading and Lighting scenes”, which factors into “Create a Shading and Lighting reel”.

Working on projects will be reinforcing my skills, which will help me with my “Become a Maya Certified User” goal.

Because of all of the new content I will be creating, and, ideally because of the extra income I would be able to work on the “Pay off credit card debit” goal.

So basically… if I stop being a slacker and actually do the shit I say I’m going to do, my life would be so much easier… who knew? That’s almost half my goals, owned, just from putting a few hours aside each week to make myself a better CG artist.

I think I get behind that goal…

Complete 1 Personal Project Each Month

This goal doesn’t complete 7 goals… but it still snags a bunch of them, and since it affects a different area of my life, the personal side rather than the work side, I feel it is worth while to focus on this goal just as much as my ‘work projects’ goal.

By completing at least one personal project each month I will be creating content I can sell at the art show (I already have a stock pile of things, so this is in a way prepping for next year), which will advanced me on the “Make $500 at art show” goal.

It will help me create content for the Etsy shop I keep being told I should create. So I could make progress on the “Earn $500 form Esty store” which will help me “Pay off credit card debt”.

To be honest, paying off the credit card debit it will make the goals “Become a black belt in aikido” and “Become a black belt in taekwondo” easier because I have to pay for the belt tests. If I’m not bleeding all of my money into credit card payments I could afford the tests easier.

Both of those push goals honor my key priority for personal growth, and it actually works out really well since I stated that I would be dedicating time to personal projects. Maybe I should add in time for personal work related projects as well.

I’ll mull that over for a bit. But it feels right, so that change will most likely be added in.

Overall I’m really happy with those two goals.

What will I do once I complete my goal?

Both of these goals don’t really have an ‘end’. They are more of a habit, which is something that I mentioned in my post yesterday.

Do they really count as goals? Well, in my head they do, especially since by doing them I make advancements on over half of all of the things I want to get done this year.

I guess my tangible, quantifiable end for marking if these goals were successful will be my “Pay off credit card debt” goal. If both of these endeavors are successful I should be pulling in more income, which will go towards that titian of a domino.

I don’t even know what I will do once I reach that goal. What would I do if all my consumer debt was gone? Most likely go out and spend money. XD

I’ll have to put some thought into this. I won’t be able to come up with anything right now, but I would reward myself for sure.

What will it feel like to reach my goal?

It will feel amazing! It will be so freaking, mind blowingly awesome!

It will be freeing to know that I have fully recovered from my financial fuck ups, because that’s why I have the cards. The Bank of America card is maxed out because I dropped all of that money to fix the Buick which still broke down.

Though that is the reason I now have my awesome little red Mazda, so it worked out the way it was meant to. In hindsight it would have been nice to put all of that money towards the down payment instead… So I chalk it up to a lesson learned. Cars suck.

Reaching this goal will feel like I’m doing things right. Like I’m a real adult, able to take care of myself. It will feel like I’m learning and moving forward; applying all of those life lessons that I’ve been learning over the years. It will make me feel strong and independent. It will make me feel resourceful, accomplished, and proud.

I will have pride in myself because I figured it out. Because I didn’t ask for help. Because I worked hard and made myself better and it paid off. Literally.

It will be awesome because I would have grown so much along the way. Through all of my projects I will learn and advance my skills. I will make new connections. I will make more ripples. I will advance myself in my industry and venture into a new one.

There are so many things that factor into this one goal that I have, this huge, hulking ogre or a task that tries so hard to hold me back and undermine my efforts.

I will feel victorious. I will feel like the warrior I am.

What will it take to achieve this goal?

A lot of work. A metric fuck ton, really. But a lot of it will be completed by small steps. A few hours a week. And all of those small steps will add up. It will take dedication because I will still have work and school obligations in addition to what I will need to do to complete these goals.

But it will be so worth it. I will be in such a better place for putting in the work needed to reach this end result.

Where am I at now?
What is my starting point?

I’m not really at square one, but I’m not really at square two either… I honestly don’t know where I am. I don’t have anything for an Esty store, though I did complete my first commissioned pattern last night, so that’s something…

I have some content for my new reel, but nothing is structured or ordered. It’s just ‘stuff’ floating around on my computer. I don’t have a direction mapped out yet. I don’t have a battle plan for what ‘work projects’ or ‘personal projects’ I want to do.

I suppose that will be my next step. Going through my OmniFocus and seeing what tasks I’m going to start tackling. I need to figure out which tasks line up with my push goals.

Where do I want to be?
What is my ending point?

Ending point: Consumer debt vanquished. /flex

Motivating Conclusion

I’m totally stoked right now to get all of this figured out. I feel motivated. It feels like I’ve found that spark that was missing for my work. I believe it’s what people refer to as passion. Drive.

I have a reason for doing stuff now. There is a real reason to be doing it, rather than a nebulous, “because it will make me better…” reason, “because I ‘should’…” reason.

Focusing on these goals will have a very real and powerful impact on the other areas of my life and ambitions. They are worth it.

Getting rid of my debt would be a huge emotional and spiritual burden taken off of my shoulders, and everything I need to do to get rid of it factors into personal growth.

I’m going to do this. Like a bawce.

30 Day Challenge – Chalene Johnson

Daily Post 0069: I’m Immature and I Snickered When I Realized What Number This Post Was

Standard

This is going to mark the ‘end’ of my day. I’m happy with it. I’m happy with myself.

I got the Friday IF Challenge done. For never having done a free hand digital painting, and only spending 5 hours on it I think it came out alright. At least I have something to mark my starting point now. I’ll be able to see my improvement from this point forward.

I got to write out my goals. There’s a lot of them. Some of them are my resolution goals, but goals are goals. I want them all. I don’t think it’s cheating to list ones that I am actively working on.

In a way some of them are more habits then goals. I’m not sure if that means they don’t count or if they are in some way less then others. The thought of completing them makes me happy, so they’re going to stay on the list regardless.

I went to my little corner desk at work after I posted on WordPress and showered. No one was at school, which was awesome. I really enjoyed being alone. It gave me the space to decompress and delve into my right side fully.

After I submitted my assignment I went to Perkins and had their shrimp pasta for lunch. While I was there I began working on the gladiator rig that I started in… January I think? It was before the freelance began, so it had to be around then.

I had all of the joints laid out, but that was it. I haven’t worked on it since then. I got a fair amount of work done today on it, though. The icons are all placed, named and cleaned. I just need to do a few more things to them before I can start setting up the systems. Seriously I only spent about an hour and a half on it today.

Most of the systems I have scripted out, so once the icons are ready to go it literally is a few button clicks, then poof, magic and voodoo and the rig works. That’s all for another day though.

When my laptop started complaining about its battery life I went back to school. I was going to go back upstairs, but Kalel was in one of the labs, so I worked in there instead. There’s some students still in here, but it was nice to work around other people. I’ve had my headphones in the whole time, jamming out while I type at my keyboard.

I code in time to the music. It’s like playing the piano.

Huston, Nicole, Marc and I took a break and chatted for a bit which was nice. We needed to defrost because it’s always so cold in the labs. The weather has been really nice though. You can tell that it’s back to being summer in Florida. It’s great.

When I set up my laptop I began working on revamping my Curve Creation script. I won’t get into the details of it right now. I’ll just say that it’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while, and I finally started on it, which is another reason I feel awesome right now.

I finished one school project, made serious headway on my rig, AND made super awesome changes to my script.

I actually completely finished revamping the one section that’s been driving me crazy. Like, it’s done and I can create a podcast for it, post it online, and have another awesome tool out there for people to download.

I have two additions I want to make to the tool before I do that though. My workflow has evolved and I want to add these new features to the tool. I got the interface mostly setup for one of the new sections. Still a few tweaks I want to do, but that’s the artist in me.

Getting the functionally in there is going to be super easy because I already have the code done, I just need to get it pulling information from the interface rather than hardcoding it.

The last addition won’t take very long to do. I think I’m going to try to save working on the scripts for the evenings, before my ‘relax’ time.

You know, beat my brain up with syntax errors and logic so I can fully appreciate and enjoy not having to do higher-level thinking.

I stitched for an hour before I began my digital painting earlier today. I got into work at noon. Yeah… I woke up super early today, so my morning was amazingly productive and I still had the whole day ahead of me. /flex

Since noon isn’t a ‘start’ hour, I shamelessly stitched while listening to Brisingr. I’m happy to report that I did not pass out. I feel a large part of that had to do with the fact that there were no fight scenes with bloody wounds dripping puddles of blood everywhere.

So I’ve already made a lot of progress on Tre’s graduation gift, and I’m about to go home to work on it further.

When I got to a good stopping point on my script I got caught up on the blogs I follow. I made a post for Occupy Daily Promp. I had a few emails to reply to, some Facefail messages. Normal social stuff I tend to avoid.

And now I’m finishing it all off with a daily post, wrapping everything up.

I’m really happy with everything I got done today. I still have my final assignment I need to work on, but I’m going to save that for tomorrow. I’m going to try to get up early enough for the spin class at the gym. Though tomorrow is supposed to be a run day… I could bike… and run… And then there’s taekwondo at 6 since it’s Monday…

Decisions… I’ll mull that over and let you know tomorrow what happens. For now I’m off to find out what happens to Eragon.

Prompt Page 0037: Yelp It

Standard

Occupy Daily Prompt

Write a review: good, bad or indifferent. It can be of anything you’ve experienced, recently or in the past. There’s always a movie, TV program, dance concert, music concert, a play, a meal out, or a novel you recently finished you can tell us about.

Hmmm. A review?

My initial thought for this post was of my most recent negative customer service experience. Alas, we always remember the negative.

But then I thought of a good review that I wanted to do, too. So I’ll get the bad out of the way and end on a good note. : D

Shitty Customer Service Sucks

Sam and I were having issues getting the service to switch over to the new phone. A forum online said I had to update the IMEI number on my account. I decided to wait until the next morning so I could go to the store and talk to an actual person.

Bad move apparently.

The chick was so apathetic. I felt like she was going to roll her eyes at me when I walked up to the desk. That was after waiting roughly 10 minutes while she finished ‘helping’ the couple who had been ahead of me. Not that the wait was all that long, but she knew I was there. It wasn’t like I was ruining her day or anything by showing up last minute or something.

She wouldn’t let me explain what I wanted to do with the phone at first, so she kept giving me the wrong advice and interrupting me.

When I was finally able to get the story out she informed me that to change the number in store I would be charged $15, while calling customer service was free.

WTF? *mind is blown*

You’re both using the same program, or at least have access to the same information. How is it possible to charge for this service in person, but not over the phone?

I waited a handful of seconds, but it was apartment she wasn’t going to say anything else. I had to actually ask her for the number to call to get my phone fixed. Wouldn’t you want to make sure the customer has all of the information they need if you aren’t going to fix the problem? Guess not? K…

If I hadn’t had my notebook with me I doubt she would have given me anything to write with. Seriously, she was that level of rude.

The person I talked to on the phone was super nice though, and I got everything straightened out. I’m glad that I don’t have to go to the store to pay my bill or anything along those lines. I would most likely go to a different store because I was so put off by that experience.

Spotify Is Awesome

I absolutely love music. I almost always have something playing. Even if I don’t have music on, I have music inside of my head.I tend to bob to the music or mouth along with it if there are lyrics. Even while I’m running (read dying…).

For a while I had a Pandora account, which is basically like the radio, only it’s online and you can have your ‘radio stations’ with you as long as you have internet access.

Well, move aside Pandora. Spotify is taking over.

Where Pandora is like a radio, Spotify is like a CD collection. You have access to thousands of artists. Whole discographies. You can pick which songs on the CDs you like and add them to your own personal collection. You can create your own playlists and share them with friends, or share individual songs that you find.

You can find  artists related to the style of music you are listening to. Spotify also has this ‘Discover’ mode, where it will recommend new artists based on your listening trends.

Spotify also has the ‘radio’ feature which is all of Pandora. Only when you like a song on the ‘radio’ Spotify keeps track of it, so you never have to worry about never being able to find that one awesome song again because you didn’t write the name down.

That may have happened to me… a lot…

It’s an amazing program / app, and I highly recommend it. : D

Dragon’s Horde 0020: IF Challenge – Path

Image

IF_Challenge_Path_005

My class this month is Digital Story Telling. One of the weekly assignments is to do the IF Challenge.

Illustrator Friday

Each week the website posts a word, and it is up to us to create an image for that word by Friday.

Well, this week’s word was “Path”. And this is the image I created for it.

My first, full blown, digital painting in Photoshop. I know there’s tons of room for improvement. But I’m proud of how it came out, especially with how little time I actually put into it. Roughly 5 hours.

Musing Moments 0011: 30 Day Challenge – Day 3

Standard

Goals.

Goals, goals, goals.

What better way to start the morning then by going through my brain and figuring out what goals I want and what habits I want to create over the next year. It’s like cleaning for me, only it’s inside of head instead of in my closet.

I get to dust off boxes and unpack them. I get to clear out the cobwebs, polish the shelves, and figure out what is really up there.

It’s like exploring and discovering. I am an adventurer in the Amazon, trudging through an exotic and wonderfully dangerous landscape. I’m left in awe at the enormity of some of the thoughts I didn’t even know existed in my mind. I am amazed, dumbstruck, at the shear potential and might of some of these hidden creatures within myself.

I get to organize and structure. I get to reflect on what I want and why, or what I don’t want and why. I get to analyze why things are important and remember experiences that taught me about life and myself. I get to evaluate and critique.

Does anything need to be tossed out? Does anything need to be put back into place? Can I pack anything away into my ‘memories’ box; the one that has my graduation gown and all of my high school marching band shirts?

I’ve given up hope of finding my sanity, but there’s a special spot for it if I ever stumble across it again. I don’t know what I would do with myself if I ever seriously found it to be honest. I’ve grown so use to being bat-shit insane with my goals and ambitions I don’t think I would feel comfortable functioning ‘normally’.

I think I would be left wondering who I was and what had happened to Jen.

I love this part of the process. The brainstorming stage. It doesn’t have to be about life. Anything that requires planning requires creativity. I get to imagine how it’s all going to work out, what has to happen and in what order. It’s amazingly right brained for me, but also left brained. It’s all about creating the big picture but drawing in the little detailed trees that get you to the larger whole.

I love, love, planning things. I love the forward momentum. I love the purpose and drive that figuring out what the tangible, doable steps for my goals are. It makes them feel real. It makes them feel achievable. I know what I want, and I know what I have to do to get there. Once this stage is complete my goals simply become a matter of time.

This is the stage of making a battle plan, and I am ruthless when it comes to this. I will get to my goal. I will take no prisoners. I will show no mercy.

I will be an unstoppable force for nature. An Earth Dragon of unquestionable resolve.

Side note: I promise I didn’t add “World Domination” to my goal list… Yet… : D

So, Day 3. Write down at least 10 crazy, insane, awesome goals. Nothing is too large, too hard, too scary. Once they are written down, compare them to the key priority statement formed yesterday.

Do the goals line up with that key priority or do any of the goals dishonor it in some way? Be hardcore honest about this. If a goal detracts from the key priority, rethink that goal. This is all about finding balance and inner peace. If any of the goals detracts from the key priority then more discord and unrest will be created, which is missing the whole point.

Tomorrow this list becomes super important because it’s going to be used to figure out the ‘push’ goal. The uber goal that aught to be placed at the top of the list.

It’s important that the goals written today be measurable. Give things with a specific time frame, specific numbers. Not “some time soon,” or “be healthier.” Details are important. The details let us know if we have truly, 100% reached our goal.

It’s also important to write the goals as if they have already been achieved.

You’re a bawce. You’ve already been successful. Feel how awesome it is to have reached your amazing goals. Feel that drive and passion. That’s an important part of the process.

So. Without further ado, here it is. My goal list. (Sorry that my brain high jacked my pencil. I have a bit more than 10).
