Daily Post 0009: Scripting Makes Me Happy

Standard

It’s the end of the day and though I didn’t get everything done that I had hoped to, I was still really productive overall.

I woke up fairly early even though I didn’t fall asleep until late. I revamped one of my scripts which made me feel pretty accomplished.

One project, 100% done, and it wasn’t even noon yet.

There were other changes that I wanted to make to another script, one that I use fairly often for renaming, but I was so happy with what I had gotten done already that I wanted to do something for me, sort of like a pat on the back.

“You’ve done a good job, take some time for yourself.”

So I did. I took two hours and finished listening to Eragon while I cross stitched.

I made tuna so I could have easy lunches for the rest of the week. Susan and I chatted for a little bit.

Part of me feels like she’s moved in. Her computer is set up on the kitchen table, she’s here when Joshua isn’t, and the fridge has way more food than normal.

I don’t really mind it. She’s pretty quiet and keeps to herself most of the time. But there is a part of me that had been hoping to be alone today, and I wasn’t.

Once Eragon was finished I had some time before I wanted to go to the gym. There was a spin class at 6 that I was thinking about going to.

I curled up in bed with Scarlet for a nap. I wasn’t crazy tired, but I’ve been kicking a lot of ass at the gym, and with the late night / early morning combo, my body was tired and a nap seemed like a good investment before having to go into work.

Unfortunately I didn’t set an alarm and when I woke up it was already 6:15, so the class wasn’t going to be able to happen. I thought about not going at all. Maybe just taking a rest day.

But the more I thought about it the more I didn’t like that idea. I knew that if I didn’t go, then by the end of the day I would be kicking myself mentally for being a slacker.

So I got up, packed up everything that I needed and headed to the gym.

I did a pretty good cardio workout on the elliptical. I’m trying to keep my intensity up for longer periods of time, so when I go running my muscles are more conditioned. It’s just getting my shins to the point where they don’t kill me afterwards.

I even did a bit of strength for my arms and shoulders.

After showering it was time to go to work.

I got to see Tony, and mentioned how I created some podcasts for the class I wanted him to check out. He seemed super interested in it, so I’m hoping it goes over well.

Since it was the first lab of the month Frank did most of the talking and demo work, which left me able to finish off the changes I wanted to make to my other script.

I love getting the computer to do things for me. It’s a very gratifying feeling. For me, code is just another form of art, a different medium. I couldn’t keep the smile off my face once I got it working properly.

I had wanted to lay out the joints for the second character I’m going to be rigging but I didn’t get to that.

Marcus, a co-worker, has been asking me to critique some of his models over the last few months. He had sent me a message on Facebook earlier, commenting on one of my posts where I mentioned how I was going to be rigging new characters.

He said if I wanted more models that I could use his.

This could actually work out really well, because after looking at some of the ones I originally picked, I’ve decided I’m not going to be using them, so I need to find new models somewhere…

Marcus to the rescue. : )

So since I didn’t have a model to rig, since I haven’t gotten the files yet, I really didn’t have all that much else to do.

So currently I’m at home, eating, wondering what would be the best use of my time.

I’m sort of tired, though I don’t think I would be able to fall asleep all that fast.

I want to create a podcast, showing my new script in action, but I was hoping to use one of my new projects for the demo, that way I’m not wasting work, and I can get a feel for how the script works in practice. So I would rather not do that yet.

I don’t want to post the script until I have the podcast, just incase there’s a last minute change I want to make to it…

And if I’m really honest, I don’t feel like doing a podcast at the moment. I would have to set a scene up, I would have to re-record it a couple of times because the first time is normally me trying to figure out what and how I’m going to say things.

So honestly, if I were to podcast anything it would be another two to three hours, depending. Because I’m sure once I record it I would want to edit it, then post it to YouTube and Vimeo. Then I would have to update my website too…

Yeah. It would be an all or nothing thing, and I don’t think I could do all of it right now. So nothing it is, I suppose.

Which still leaves me wondering what I should be doing right now.

There are chores that I need to do. Cleaning the litter box and such. Nothing major. Nothing that I really want to do.

So I don’t know. I’m sure I’ll be able to figure something out.

But in summery, it was a good day and I’m happy with what I got done.
