Post 0106: Prep Day

Standard

That’s how I think of the days before I travel. They are my days to prepare. To make sure I have everything packed. That I’m not forgetting my phone charger, or something else that would ruin my life if I left it behind.

I have laundry I need to do while I am at mom’s house, and it’s free. The sun is out so I should be able to rake the yard. I have arranged to have lunch with Nasse one last time before I leave tomorrow afternoon. And I am currently trying to arrange plans to meet with my cousin so I can give her birthday present to her.

I also am supposed to meet Joey and Katy tonight, though it will be a brief meeting since Joey doesn’t get off work until late.

I had a hard time falling asleep last night, and I’m not really sure why. Maybe it’s because I can feel how much I want to return back to my routines.

I want to go to my gym. I want to run my bike trails. I want to have coffee at my table. And cook with my skillets. I want a fridge that actually has veggies and fruit inside of it.

I want things that are familiar. Things that I feel belong to me, or are a part of me. I want to be in my environment.

Mostly, I want to start working on my goals for 2015.

I looked over the battle plan that I made for January and I am excited to begin work on it. There are several things I can do in this coming week to help launch me forward towards what I think will be a successful outcome.

One of the things I will be looking into is Fredanator, which could lead to revenue for me. They are a company who runs ads on Youtube channels, specifically animation channels, which is a sphere my tutorials and podcasts fit into. I would be shown alongside channels like Simon the Cat.

I would keep 75% of all revenue.

This has the possibility of being extremely beneficial move for me.

I still need to get some answers. I haven’t signed anything yet, and it’s not official. But it would give me a reason to produce new content. It would help me gain more followers, it would help me push myself, and it would feel like there is a reason to do it.

A solid, legitimate, almost tangible reason. Not a nebulous, “Because it would make me a better person,” reason.

I could use all of the money earned to go towards my debt. Extra money to help me reach the main goals I have for myself.

On the topic of money, I just got done paying my bills for this paycheck.

I normally would have done it last Friday, payday, but I didn’t feel like it, and nothing had to be paid. I purposefully gave myself permission to not worry about it until today, my prep day.

Today is a day for responsibility, not the days of my vacation. Those were days for rest and healing. For letting go and not having to worry about life and money, about trivial things that in the end mean nothing.

Those were days meant to spend with family and friends, not sitting behind my computer balancing a budget that in all seriousness didn’t have to be done.

So, I released those thoughts and did not pick them back up until today.

I have actually done surprising well.

According to my numbers I should have enough money to pay off the credit card with Warren this coming Friday. $250 left.

I should also have the extra $100 I need to switch my phone over from Sir’s plan.

Two of my most immediate goals are just days away from being realized. Two ties to my past that I can remove and finally be free from. While I may still talk to Warren #2 or Sir on days like yesterday, wishing them well, they will no longer have any sort of hold over me.

I will no longer have an obligation, a debt. They will no longer be a point in my life I must plan around.

I would be able to get my tattoos.

And the apartment with Jarrett. The lease ends at the end of January. The power is already scheduled to be turned off. The Notice to Vacate is signed and turned in.

It will happen. The lease will end. It’s just a matter of time. One month. Sweet, sweet closure within my grasp.

The only thing I worry about is getting the Internet equipment back from him. He has been kind recently, so I imagine things in life are going well for him, but I know how easily he can turn mean. How he can dig his heels in just for the sake of not allowing the other person to have an easy time of it.

In my mind I view it as spiteful. He is suffering so everyone must suffer with him.

He still has my microwave, my tablet, my trashcan. I believe there was something else though I can’t remember it. The $600 he still owes me. That’s something. It would be amazing to believe I will ever see that money again.

But I don’t. And that’s not even all of it. That’s just what I am owed since I started tracking. What I can prove he didn’t pay.

Jarrett has money to give me when I return for the power and Internet bill that he’s behind on. That makes me feel good. At least he’s trying. Which is more than what he did in the months leading up to our break up.

Even getting a small portion of what I am owed, the money for the accounts, would be fantastic.

And then at the end of January he will no longer have any hold over me. I will be truly free of all of the chains and obligations to my past.

So close. So tantalizingly close.

All of these goals and ambitions I have, all of these opportunities I want to look into, start with going back home. Back to Orlando. Which starts with today, making sure I am ready for the journey back.

I have so enjoyed my time with my family. I feel better and less alone. I’m not sure how long this feeling will last. I’m not sure if I will return to my feelings of isolation once I am away from the physical contact.

But, in this moment, I feel ready.

I feel like I can do it.

This reminds me of a picture that I saved forever ago. An image among many, stashed in my folder of inspirational sayings.

I am going to succeed because I’m crazy enough to think I can.

Daily Post 0105: An Amazing Christmas

Standard

I went to sleep around 5am this morning. Which meant I woke up around 11, and decided that the best thing to do with today was to go back to sleep around 12 and sleep until 4pm.

It was an amazing day.

Not having to be anywhere or do anything. Being 100% able to go back to sleep guilt free and know that it didn’t matter when I woke up, or what I did after I did crawl out from under the covers.

I messaged so many people today. x.x

A while ago, out of curiosity, I checked how many ‘friends’ I had on Facebook.

I don’t accept, or send, a friend request unless I seriously consider someone a friend.

Well… According to Facebook, I have something in the ballpark of 200…

I stared at the number for a while. Someone really needed to talk to the Facebook devs, because there was no way that I had 200 friends.

Me. Miss Introvert. 50 would be pushing it. 200 was just sick. Either the number was wrong or I had a lot of people that I didn’t know about on my friends list and I needed to do some hardcore deleting.

But as I started scrolling through the list of names I realized that, wow, I really did know every single person, and that they were in some way important to me.

Maybe it’s from being a teacher, and having all of those memories of helping out on projects, the freak outs of files corrupting, or listening when they were having issues with roommates or significant others.

I remember the hard conversations of them trying to figure themselves out. Was this degree the right choice for them? Where they doing the right thing with their life?

Parents being unsupportive, health issues with family members. Being late to school because of car trouble.

All of those 200+ people are important to me because they are individuals and I know them.

So I had to send a billion (ok, maybe I’m exaggerating slightly… but not by much… >.> ) messages today. But it was so nice getting replies from each and every person. They all asked how I was doing, and they hoped I was able to get time off. They asked about how my classes were going, and if I got to see my brother.

There was so much warmth and love from everyone. It was such a good day.

I had messages from all of my family members, including my dad.

I had a voice message from my Mother Earth, which totally made me melt inside. <3

Both Warrens messaged me, and Warren #1 was kind enough to ask if I was feeling better. I let him know that I was feeling better both health wise (totally 100% not sick anymore! Huzzah!) and internally; that the imbalance from my birthday was gone.

I messaged Sir, saying that I hoped he didn’t mind me messaging him, but that I wanted to wish him a Merry Christmas, and that I hoped he was having a good day.

I worried about messaging him. I don’t hate him. I still care and hope only for the best for him, and if he were any other person in my life other than an ex I wouldn’t think twice about wishing him well.

The thought of not messaging him felt wrong. Like I would be singling him out or punishing him for having been close to me.

We had issues in our relationship, and we both have issues internally, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to be wished a happy holiday.

So I messaged him, and he replied by saying it was very sweet of me to send the message, and that he hoped I was having a good day. He said he hoped that I was doing well. He even wished me a belated happy birthday and that he hadn’t known if sending a message on the 20th would have been ok, so he had opted for silence instead.

I said that it really meant a lot, and thank you for the warm thoughts. And that was it.

No, “I miss you.” No awkward, “We should hang out when you’re back in town.”

Just a simple exchange of, “I don’t hate you, and I hope you have a good day.”

I even messaged Nathan, John’s soon to be ex. I don’t hate him either. I’m not upset or angry that things didn’t work out between him and John. He’s still a person, and I still wanted him to know that I hoped he was having a good day.

So overall, a really, really warm day filled with love and solitude.

I worked on my nephew’s gift. I’m roughly halfway through it, and may be working on it more after I finish here. Not 100% committed to that though. I honestly might to back to sleep.

I started listening to Eragon. I have actually already read this book, but I never made it through Eldest, even though I really wanted to. Since it has been so long since I read the first book, I am listening to it while I stitch so I can listen to the rest of the series. Guess Game of Thrones will happen later.

Jason called around 7:30 to see if mom was home so he could wish her Merry Christmas. Sadly, only I was here, so he was stuck talking me to. : )

We chatted for a bit, and I told him I would let mom know that he called. Not 10 minutes later mom came through the door. XD

It’s awesome how life works like that sometimes.

I ended up making mom and I dinner. Pasta with hot Italian sausage and pasta sauce, with some garlic cheese toast on the side. I wish I had been able to make a small side salad to go with it.

The lack of veggies and fruit over the past three weeks is starting to drive me crazy.

I’m leaving for home Saturday though, so tomorrow is my prep day. Wash all my cloths, make sure I have everything packed up, that I have done all the chores that mom wanted. Things like that.

Maybe I’ll get lucky and the ground will be dry enough to rake the yard before I leave.

The only thing I have going on tomorrow is meeting Joey around 8:30 to meet Katy. I would like to see Nasse one last time before I leave. And I still haven’t met up with Mandie yet. I would really like for that to happen, but I’m honestly not sure if it will. Slightly bummed about that thought. : /

Not a whole lot else has happened today. Super, super low key.

I’m off to go be anti-productive and a total slacker. /whoosh : D

Post 0104: I’m So Sorry this Post is so long

Standard

I didn’t realize how long this post was going to be until I got to the end. My mind high jacked my fingers, and oops 16 pages later…

Enjoy my craziness. : D

It’s Christmas Eve.

I feel like I should be feeling something. Excitement. Anticipation.

I know kids everywhere are having those feelings. Families are together, waiting for the festivities of tomorrow.

I have an empty house on a rainy day to look forward to. No Christmas tree in my mom’s house. No lights on the outside to remember to turn off in the morning.

And most people would read that and think about how depressing it sounds. How gloomy. How unfortunate to spend a holiday alone.

But me? My thoughts?

I’m neutral. To me it’s just another day.

My mom will be off working. I will wake up and finish my nephew’s birthday gift. I may start another book. John and I may play Warcraft. I will make posts on Facebook wishing my friends well. The super special ones will get text messages. I doubt I will do phone calls, maybe one or two. It isn’t anything personal, just my introvertness being all introverted and stuff.

I don’t know where that leaves me. It’s odd, knowing that people feel bad for me, when I don’t feel bad for myself. When I don’t think there’s a reason to feel bad at all.

Why does society force such importance on this time of year? On any time of year? Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween.

I know in the past they used to hold such significance.

But now?

Now it feels like sand paper on my skin. Partaking in these flashy, superficial holidays bothers me. It makes me feel like I am making a mockery of what these days used to stand for.

I think Christmas bothers me the most out of all of them because it feels like such a selfish holiday. Why do I have to give gifts? A material object? Why does it have to be during this time frame? What about all of the other things I have done throughout the year?

Do all of my other gifts not count? If I don’t give something now why is it a black mark against me? I love and care everyday of the year, why does society seem to be set on twisting this day? Making it feel like an unspoken obligation?

Why do we raise children to expect this type of tradition? Raising them on the belief that if they are loved they will undoubtedly receive something. Always some ‘thing’. An object.

There was a picture of Piglet and Winnie the Pooh, and in the picture Piglet is asking Pooh, “How do you spell love?”

And Pooh replies with, “You don’t spell it. You feel it.”

I feel much the same way. Love is not an object. It is not a thing. It is a feeling. It is energy which passes from one person to another. An exchange.

Wedding rings bother me, too. I understand they are symbolic. And I understand for some people they mean the world.

There is a story behind my view, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to delve into that. I know I should. There is hurt in that wound that still needs to be purged. And I can feel the discord in me from my writing having drifted so close to those memories.

These aren’t happy Christmas thoughts.

I’m thinking of myself, sitting under the bare snow covered trees in my forest. The one where my warrior self resides. The one where my falcon hunts during the summer months.

But it’s not summer right now. It’s winter. Snow covers the ground, the black branches. It’s evening. It’s dark. The world is sleeping. It is quiet.

I am crouched, my arms warped around my knees and my breath warms the air with clouds of white. I am sitting, thinking.

In the silence and peace, where the world sleeps and nothing can hurt me, my mind wanders to the past, different days. Harder days.

Days before I moved to Florida. Before I went to college. Days where I was still unsure of whom I was. Still lost and drowning, clinging to people as if they were driftwood which would take me to shore where I would finally be able to stand.

But they never did. There was no land back then. Only endless sea.

When Warren #1 and I broke up it wasn’t really a break up.

We had been together for five years. We loved each other. We talked about getting engaged. We knew we had something that was hard to find. Some connection.

Neither of us had been in a serious relationship outside of our own, however. We talked about that more and more often. How we didn’t want to get into our thirties and have a mid-life crises because we were always wondering ‘What if’.

What if we could have had something better with someone else? What if we became resentful of each other for missing out on experiencing something in our ‘wild years’.

I’m not sure if I’m really explaining the feelings right. We were worried that if we didn’t try having space between us, that we wouldn’t appreciate what we truly had. We had nothing to compare it to. Nothing to show us how good we were for each other.

We agreed, both of us, to try to see other people. It was mutual. A hiatus of sorts.

I was fine for the first few days. But the lack of contact started killing me fast. And maybe killing is a strong word, but that’s what it felt like.

I would call, and he wouldn’t answer. And when he did he would be short with me. I would ask to see him. I needed him to hug me. Touch me. Anything just to know that he still cared about me. Two weeks in and I felt worthless. It seemed so easy for him to function without me. While I was on the other end of the line, a complete mess.

He said that the point of the separation was to see other people, and that if we saw each other it would be missing the point.

On some level I knew he was right, but it still hurt to hear it. It still felt like being abandoned. I didn’t want the separation anymore. I didn’t want to meet someone else. I already knew he was what I wanted. At the time, it felt like he was what I needed.

My driftwood keeping me afloat. I didn’t know how to be alone. I didn’t know how to be myself without him there to help define me.

I became depressed. I had a hard time eating. Sleeping. Caring about anything seemed like the hardest thing to do in the world. It wasn’t a feeling I had felt in a long time. At least not to this level.

It reminded me of when my dad and left.

I ended up spending more time with a co-worker who was having his own issues with his girlfriend.

It started by playing, of all things, World of Warcraft. (Side note, this game has stolen six years or more of my life… and now I’m playing it… again… with my younger brother. I shall never escape its clutches)

I didn’t want to be alone, so I would play on my laptop, sitting on his bed while he played at his desktop. There was nothing sexual. Just this need for both of us to not be alone.

Then one day Joe told me that he broke up with his girlfriend. And then he started holding my hand in the car when we would go get lunch when we were on break. Then hugs. Kisses.

I wasn’t drowning anymore. It felt like someone still cared about me.

Looking back at it I was a fool. I was young. Silly. Naive.

I wish I could go back and give myself a hug and to tell myself that I was already loved. That what Joe was giving me wasn’t love at all. I wish I could go back and protect myself from all of the hurt and venom that I was going to be subjected to.

I was working at the help desk at a college. Joe worked in the IT department. I had originally been a contract worker, helping to switch all of the computers on campus over to a new server. They needed more manpower temporarily, and I was one of the lucky people who got picked.

When the contract ended there wasn’t a spot in the IT department for me to fill, but they didn’t want to let me go, so they moved me over to a permanent position at the help desk.

Joe and I saw each other every day at work. We went to lunch with the whole team because I had worked with them for so many months. They were my friends. We all played WoW together. I went to concerts with them.

I felt like I belonged.

And then Joe broke up with his girlfriend, and I was single, and then we were together. I thought it was real.

But I was at the help desk. I was fixing printer jams, and changing ink cartages. I was answering phones and creating email accounts. I was running down stairs to get my boss her lunch.

I was a step and fetch it, and I was unhappy.

I knew I was better than this, and I wanted to be better.

I told Joe that I wanted to go to Florida for school.

He said I wanted to go to Florida to leave him.

Which brings back memories of how we started dating to begin with.

I was the one who brought it up. I wanted to date him. But in the beginning he didn’t want to date me.

I was too young. Too financially unstable. I was 19 going on 20 and he was turning 28.

It hurt. I thought he had cared, and he seemed to be fine with me until that point. I thought he reciprocated my feelings, which was the only reason I nervously had brought it up.

But no. I wasn’t what he wanted. It made me think that he thought I was a child. Maybe I still was. Maybe I had done something foolish and silly and he hadn’t said anything because he didn’t want to hurt my feelings. Maybe I wasn’t as mature as everyone said I acted.

Well, I mean, obviously I wasn’t. An adult had just rejected me. I was still too young to be thought of as a women, as an adult able to be in a relationship.

So I distanced myself. I hurt. I felt worthless again. This was the first time I had reached out to someone. Warren had asked me to date him. I had never put myself in the position of being turned down. These were new feelings and I didn’t know what to do with them, other than return to being depressed.

But then suddenly Joe did want to be with me. He cared about me, and didn’t want to be with out me. So we became a couple.

So when the subject of school came up, he said I was doing it to get away from him.

I tried to explain that wasn’t why I wanted to leave. That I wanted to be something more than a help desk assistant. I wanted to be someone he could be proud of. A successful adult, not the child he was worried about me being, or at least the child I felt I had to prove I wasn’t.

He wouldn’t hear any of it. And for days he didn’t talk to me. At all.

I didn’t know what to do. He wouldn’t answer his phone and I didn’t want to be the creepy stalker showing up to his house. So when he didn’t say anything to me at work, when he walked pasted me like I didn’t exist, I figured we were done, that we were broken up.

Before all of this though, I had to deal with the fallout of Warren.

After Joe and I had already started dating, Warren called me out of the blue. He wanted to see how I was doing since he hadn’t heard from me in a while. With Joe filling my need for affection, I had stopped reaching out to Warren.

I said I was fine, that I was seeing someone else. I thought that was ok. We had agreed to see other people. And I was.

But it wasn’t ok. He couldn’t believe that I was seeing someone. He couldn’t believe I was a cheating whore.

I am not sure what being stabbed in the chest feels like. I have never physically experienced that type of situation. But I imagine it is very similar to the feelings I had during that phone call.

Over and over these words, these phrases where shouted through the phone and into my ears. Into my brain. Words became weapons. For both of us.

Swords, daggers, spears. Hateful, hurtful things that we never meant, but said anyway as a way to lash out. Both of us wounded animals.

It drove me closer to Joe. Clinging to him harder as Warren truly fell out of my reach. My best friend of 5 years. Gone. And in such a horrible way.

We had agreed. I had done nothing but what we had said we would do. I was honest about it. I didn’t hide it. And yet I was a liar. A whore. I was dishonorable.

I hated myself. I hated Warren. I felt like a terrible person. And Joe made me feel like I wasn’t.

So when Joe ‘broke up’ with me I felt like I had lost everything.

Maybe I was a terrible person. Maybe I had done something wrong with Warren. And maybe I was being selfish with school. Maybe it wasn’t right for me to move away. Maybe I wasn’t thinking about Joe’s feelings and how it would affect him.

All I wanted was to be a good person. I wanted to have a career that would make me financially stable like what he wanted. A job that would make me happy. I wanted to learn and better myself. I didn’t want to leave him. I didn’t want to mess up our relationship.

But I was. So that made me bad.

I functioned on auto pilot for days. I felt nothing. I didn’t cry. I didn’t know how to cry. I had slammed my walls up so high that I couldn’t see or feel anything. I was inside myself. I was safe. There was no pain. No hurt.

There was nothing.

Nothing.

I could function with nothing.

Check this email. Respond to that message. Do this task. Eat at least one meal. Ok, maybe not a meal, at least one snack. Good. You did good. Eating is good. Ok, now reply to the new email. Don’t forget the lab needs more paper. Debbie is looking at you, don’t forget to smile. If you smile she won’t ask you what’s wrong. Good. Good. You’re doing good.

One thing at a time. That’s all there was. Whatever was in front of me was the only thing that existed. Even the voices that had been plaguing me, the words Warren had placed in my head, eating me away from the inside, were silent. My walls so high that even that pain couldn’t reach me.

There was nothing.

And then out of nowhere Joe came to me one day and said that he wanted me to follow him. I was confused. But I could tell he was excited. Antsy. He wanted me to follow him, and he wanted me to do it now because there was something he wanted to say, or do, something he couldn’t wait for.

Much like a kid on Christmas morning. Which makes me give a sad, ironic smile since it’s Christmas Eve. But that’s the only way I can think to describe his energy in that moment.

We ended up going to where the guys took their smoke breaks.

It was empty. Just us.

He took out a box and handed it to me.

It was from Kays.

I was so confused. I had never gotten anything from a store like that except from my dad. He had gotten me two sets of jewelry, one for Valenties day, and a necklace for my birthday. Gifts to try to buy my love and affection. At least that’s how I categorized the act in my mind.

This was different though.

This was a gift. An expensive gift. From a guy. Not my dad. A guy I thought I was broken up with. But a guy I loved. So much confusion.

I took the box and opened it, slowly. Like a snake was going to spring out and bite me.

If only I knew.

Inside was a hello kitty head, with little paws holding onto a heart. A heart full of rubies. Small glittering stones, dancing in the sunlight.

There was a note, too. A note saying that as long as I had the necklace that I would always have his heart, and that I would never be alone.

I cried. We hugged so tightly. I thought things were ok. So foolish.

How could a necklace erase all of those days?

I know now, with my current self, it wouldn’t. But back then it did. I forgot, forgave. I didn’t care about the past. He loved me. This proved it. We would be ok. We would make it work.

I got everything set up for school. I was going to move to Florida. Joe didn’t want to go with me. He was worried he wouldn’t be able to find a job. It was risky, again with the unstable, and he didn’t want to do it.

I wanted him to come with me. I said we could make it work. I had money for living expenses. We could do this. But he said no.

So I was going to be going alone. We were both sad. And then the day came where I had to say goodbye.

I went to his house. When I got inside he didn’t say anything to me. Not one word as he reached up, unhooked my necklace, and put it in his pocket.

I was confused at first, thinking that he was going to try to kiss me, his hands going to hold my cheeks, but no. They kept going, back under my hair, but not playing with it.

What then?

Fumbling with the chain.

Was it sitting oddly?

No…

Then it was loose.

Then it was gone.

Gone? But it was his heart. His love for me. How could it be gone?

And then he was looking at me. His eyes. Empty eyes. Unfeeling. There was nothing there. While in mine I felt tears. I couldn’t stop them. I think my heart knew before my brain did what had just happened.

I covered my mouth because I felt the sob in my throat. I felt it, tried to keep it in. Felt it almost strangle me as it clawed it’s way out. My knees were weak and I leaned against the doorframe for a few seconds as my body shook. I couldn’t control anything.

I couldn’t process it all, it was too much, and his eyes, the whole time his eyes just staring at me. No explanation. No compassion. Just watching me, like I was an ant or some mouse in a maze. Something to be observed as I suffered in front of him.

Somehow I got up, and I left.

I didn’t say anything either. There was nothing to say.

Actions speak louder than words.

I don’t know how I drove away. I don’t know how I was able to see the road. I don’t think I should have been driving to be honest. But I think that’s what held me together until I got home.

Focus on driving. Turn here. Slow down there. Make sure to read every sign. Focus on everything. Everything outside. Do not look inside. Do not look inside.

Just like you’re never supposed to look down. You can make it if you don’t look down.

So don’t look inside. You can make it if you don’t look inside. You can make it. You’ll be fine. You’re not bleeding out. You’re not fatally wounded. You’re fine. You’ll make it.

The next night Joe texted me.

I was supposed to leave in the morning for Florida. My U-Haul was packed. I was sleeping on the floor on an air mattress. Or trying to at least. But I couldn’t. I hadn’t slept at all since leaving Joe’s house.

I hadn’t thought. I hadn’t processed anything. I had gone back to before, to autopilot. One task at a time. One box at a time. Focus outside. Outside. There’s nothing inside. Don’t look there. It’s ok. You’ll be ok.

And then suddenly there’s this text, reminding me that I wasn’t ok. That I had a gaping wound in my chest. And that there was so much anguish inside me that I couldn’t breath, but somehow life was cruel and wasn’t letting me die.

He wanted to see me. He was sorry. He didn’t know why he had done that. Could he come over?

I don’t know why I said yes. Maybe for closure. Maybe because I was hoping it was all a horrible dream and that if I saw him I would wake up and none of this would have happened.

He came over. He gave me back the necklace, saying he had only wanted to look at it.

He tried giving it back to me, and as he put it in my hand I felt nothing. It meant nothing to me. It was the hollowest gesture I have ever experienced.

This wasn’t his heart. It literally represented nothing when only a few days ago it had meant the world.

I never wore it again. I put it in a box and I kept it for a very long time. A reminder.

He asked for us to still be together, that he didn’t want to lose me. And I agreed. I said it because I knew he wanted me to. I felt nothing. I answered out of reflex, not out of feeling. Not out of love. I said yes because it felt like I had no reason to say no.

I was nothing. What would it matter if I said yes, if I said no. What did anything matter. Nothing would fix the empty shell that I was. So if it made him feel better, fine.

He wanted me to stay in the relationship, so I did.

It wasn’t until I was in Florida and met Warren #2, and told him of Joe, my boyfriend, that I began to care that I was still in a relationship with him.

Joe and I would talk once in a while, not often. He didn’t answer very often. Warren asked about our relationship, and I told him. I answered all of his questions, and the more that Warren asked the more I felt like a person.

The more I stopped feeling dead.

I didn’t breakup with Joe. Warren ended up doing it actually. Which is a whole ‘nother cluster fuck of awesomeness that I put myself through.

Another memory for another time.

That is the main hurt I have from Joe. But there are countless others, like how he never broke up with his girlfriend. How he was seeing her still, and how our group at work started disliking me because they thought I was making moves on Joe and disrespecting Crystal.

I found out that Joe had gone on a double date with a co-worker and his girlfriend. Joe had told me he had gone out with ‘the guys’. I had been lied to. I had been used to betray someone else’s trust, even though I had told Joe that if he wanted to be with other people that was fine, just to tell me.

And there was never one time, not once in the year we were together, that I went to his house without him asking for me to bring something over. Pick up dinner; stop at the store for soda. Would I bring a candy bar? Some cigarettes?

I didn’t realize it until we had been separated for a few months. But he was worried about me being financially stable, when I was bleeding out money on stuff that he could afford much more easily than me. I had to purchase my right to see him.

I was freaking out, scraping up money, trying to figure out how I was going to pay for my next semester of community college and get the order he wanted for dinner that night.

When he got into a car wreck he was without a car for about a week. I stayed over at his house fairly often so we could both go to work. Just car pool. It was easy. The days that I didn’t stay over I left my house early to get to him, so we wouldn’t be late.

But when my car got totaled I lived too far way from him to come pick me up. It was too much gas. And he didn’t want me to stay over.

The day I went to look for a car at the dealership my brother had dropped me off. He had to go somewhere; I think a rehearsal for band. I didn’t end up making a deal, so I didn’t have a car to drive home in, and I didn’t have a ride home lined up.

I called Joe. Surely he would come to get me. But it was inconvenient for him. Wasn’t there someone else?

I was sitting outside, on the steps, roughly 10 miles from my house, at night. The roads I would have to walk were extremely busy streets, with no sidewalks. And he didn’t want to come make sure I got home safely.

I ended up getting ahold of my mom. She hadn’t been answering her phone before. Which is why I had called Joe. Thankfully she had picked up after a few more calls.

She said she would come get me.

We ended up stopping for food at Arby’s and she asked me why Joe hasn’t come to get me.

I told her. And she asked how I thought that was ok.

I don’t remember what I said, but I explained it away.

She was really quiet, and said ok. And we left the subject alone. It was never brought up again.

When I wrote my Cousin It post, I mentioned how my mom was really good at letting me make my own choices, and that by choices I meant mistakes.

That had to have been one of the hardest things for her to do. To sit, knowing that I was going to get hurt. Knowing that Joe wasn’t the person I thought he was.

Some people may read that and think that she is a terrible person, that she should have kept me from seeing him. Told me to breakup with him. Protected me. Defended me.

But I don’t think she should have. I think she did the hardest thing in the world. She let me be my own person. She let me learn, and gain wisdom.

She didn’t shelter me from life. And I respect her for that. I am grateful for that.

Years after the breakup Joe surfaced again.

He posted pictures he had of me online. A starnger online messaged me, letting me know that there was a post on a forum that linked back to an account I was posting fictional stories on, and that he felt I should know about it.

I was at work, so I couldn’t see the images due to the fire was, but I could read the the comments on the page. The hurtful words.

I made a post on my profile. It wasn’t a rant. It wasn’t a rage filled cry of how unjust this was, how mad I was.

No.

Instead I said that I couldn’t prove who posted the pictures, and that I hadn’t looked at the images, since they were blocked by my work’s firewall, but that I had seen the comments and I could guess that the images were things I didn’t want publicly displayed.

All I could do was guess at who. But, if it was the person I imagined, that I wanted to thank him. Thank him for pushing me away. Thank him for being a part of what made me who I was that day. Because of him I was a stronger person. I knew the things that truly mattered to me in life. I understood myself better. Because of him I was pursuing a career that I loved. Because of him I was doing amazing in school.

I said yes, there was been hurt from our relationship, but that I could remember the good times, too. The times of riding on the back of his bike out to the beach, of going for lunch together, of playing World of Warcraft together. Skipping out on work the night Wrath came out so we could get the expansion and stay up all day playing our characters.

I said that I remembered good times, and that I hoped he remembered them too, and that all I had to say was thank you.

That was it.

I made peace with it. With that chapter of my life. That post was my closure.

But maybe I haven’t made as much peace as I thought I did.

The thought of gifts still bothers me. The thought of someone giving me a wedding ring, or any object meant to signify love terrifies me.

There is still a part of me that gets tense. A part that has a hard time filling my lungs with enough air as the fear turns my blood to ice. There is a part of me whose throat gets tight and whose muscles tense, preparing to run. Run so far away that it could never happen.

That pain could never happen again.

I know now that Joe most likely had borderline personality disorder. I know on a logical level that he was sick, and that there were most likely a lot of factors for some of the events in our relationship affecting me as strongly as they did.

My issues with my parent’s divorce, my breakup with Warren, my struggle to find social acceptance. All of those things leading to what I think was dependency.

I was not a strong person then. At least I don’t feel I was strong. Maybe in a way I was, because I was still surviving. Refusing to give up. Still trying to find something to cling to, my pieces of driftwood so I wouldn’t drown. All I needed to do was stay alive. Stay above water.

Anything. Anything. Just so I could live.

But there is still that injured animal portion of me who remembers.

There is a part of me that runs on instincts. A part of me realizes that this action has happened before. This action caused us pain. Pain is bad. This action is bad. Run. Avoid the pain. Self preservation. I want to survive. This action is counter productive to survival.

How sad, really.

There are five love languages, or ways to so another person you care. One of those languages is gifts. Some people see gift giving, or the receiving of tokens, as love. For me it is physical contact, words of affirmation, and acts of service.

But gifts?

I love giving things to others. Like giving Joey his wedding gift. Or getting the coffee drink for my mom. I love making others happy because their happiness becomes my own.

I can handle small gifts. Like the cross stitch from Bre, my Christmas gift from last year. The tokens from friends I can accept and often cherish.

The stuffed dragon my Mother Earth got me guards me every night. And I love it. I’m so protective of it because it came from her. It came as a token of love and it means so much to me.

But when Warren #2 tried to get me flowers, or any sort of token of affection I would have anxiety for days. I kept waiting. Waiting. And eventually I learned.

His gifts were different.

But not a good different. They still meant pain.

Warren #2’s gifts were a sign of guilt.

The only time I ever got flowers was when he had done something he knew would hurt me. It would take a few days more for him to feel guilty enough to tell me about it. About how he had cheated on me, or lied to me about something.

The gifts were a way to try to make it better.

But flowers mend nothing. And so gifts from a significant other were still a painful, unsafe experience. Gifts still meant hurt. They were just a precursor.

And I am left wondering how I am always the labeled the cheater in my relationships, when I am the only one who is loyal.

Me. The one who is open about being interested in polyamorous relationships is the one who is monogamous.

How is it that I feel I have nothing left in my being to give when my relationships reach their end, but I am called selfish and uncaring?

Those who read all of this must think that I am sitting at my computer, depressed. That I am dragging myself over the coals by revisiting these events. Tormenting myself with these thoughts.

But I’m not.

I feel calm. The discord that was present earlier is gone, and I am left thinking that it was good that I sat and wrote all of this out. It was good that I didn’t try to hide from these thoughts. It would have festered, floating in my mind, infecting my thoughts.

Warren #1 and I struggled for so long to overcome the hateful, hurtful things we said to each other. We have talked, countless times, about our past, and we still do sometimes, even now. We still apologize to each other.

We will never be able to take any of it back. But we can acknowledge the facts, and still respect each other. We can empathize with each other for where we were at the time.

I can’t do that with Joe. I don’t think Joe ever loved me, at least not in a healthy way. I don’t think we were ever really friends. If I saw him now I wouldn’t trust him.

I know now what I see in other people. I read energies better. I am also stronger as a person. I wouldn’t ignore the red flags that I danced on all those years ago. I wouldn’t brush away those feelings of foreboding.

And that’s why I respect my mom so much. By letting me go through all of that, she let me develop the skills I need to take care of myself.

I don’t look back at those situations with depression. I don’t pity myself and think, “Woe is me.”

I look back on them realistically.

They sucked. Oh my god, did all of that suck. And there’s no way that I want to go back and do it over again.

But I don’t want to change it either. I am who I am in large part because of those situations. Yeah, I have insecurities from it. But I’m aware of them, and I know that I need to work on them.

There was bad stuff, but I gained so much from falling down and scrapping my knees… and elbows… and palms… and I’m sure parts of my face… and like, all of my ego… It was a pretty nasty fall.

But it made me look at myself. It made me think about what was important to me.

I can’t say that I did much better with Warren #2. But I did better with Corey, and even better with Jarrett, and now Sir.

I am learning. Learning to love myself. To care for myself. I’m learning that not all people are bad like how Joe and Warren #2 were.

Warren #1 wasn’t. Jarrett wasn’t. And for all of the issues that he and I have had, he is still the strongest connection I have ever had with anyone.

And Sir. Totally a fantastic guy who was like me, who is like Ari. Lost and in need of finding himself. Which isn’t something I can help him with.

I’m happy with where I am. I’m content. It is Christmas, and while my Christmas day may be spent alone, I have a lot of amazing people in my life. Mostly because I made the choice to move to Florida.

A lot of positive came out of that darkness.

Life may seem pretty shitty sometimes, and there have been super dark moments for me. But I don’t regret them. I don’t want to change them. Because right now, inside my mind, I’m sitting under a brilliant star-studded night sky, looking up at a winter solstice moon.

I am in my quiet wood, calm and at peace with that aspect of my past. The tangles are gone, the tension eased.

Tomorrow will be another day where I wake up. Where I have people who love me in my life. Who love me regardless of what day it is. Regardless of if I am physically in their world, or miles away. Who love me regardless of if we give each other gifts or not, because love is something that you feel.

Merry Christmas. To all of you. <3

Post 0103: Daily Prompt – Getting Seasonal

Standard

“The holiday season: can’t get enough of it, or can’t wait for it all to be over already? Has your attitude toward the end-of-year holidays changed over the years?”

There was a time where I loved Christmas. I would wake up and there would be presents under the tree. Mom, John, and I, and sometimes Jason if he were able to come home, would spend the early morning together.

Then we would go to my grandparents house, and there would be an even bigger tree. So many ornaments that I helped to hang, and lights, and more presents. And my family  would be there. My cousins, my uncles and aunts. And most importantly my grandparents.

There would be tons of food, talking, playing. So much warmth and love.

That is what I remember the most about Christmas as a child, the closeness of family.

It wasn’t the gifts that mattered to me. Even back then on some level I knew that it wasn’t the gifts I was really enjoying. It was the group, the feelings. The way that I couldn’t help but smile because I could feel how happy everyone else was.

How could I not enjoy it?

Now though, I feel that Christmas is very cheap. I see commercials on TV, ads in the store windows. I see businesses saying how they will be open Christmas day, and I think about the employees who will have to work.

I think about how Christmas decorations are out in stores before Halloween is over.

I think about how in society it has nothing to do with family anymore. It’s just a reason to spend money on useless things. How all of it feels superficial, cheap, and pointless.

My trip to Vegas to spend the week and a half with my family was our ‘Christmas’. We still value our time together, and that is still the focal point of the holidays for us. The one time where we all can normally get time off to be together in one place.

But Christmas, the holiday, means virtually nothing to us.

Now that my bothers and I are older, and my grandparents have passed the need or urge to exchange gifts is literally nonexistent. I’m sure Jace will have presents, but for the rest of my family, we don’t value ‘things’. We value each other, and that’s the only reason any of us like Christmas.

It is the one time of year where we can still be together, under one roof.

So while on one level I can’t wait for it to be over. For the decorations to go away. The flashy reminders that “You’re supposed to be spending money on people because that’s the only way to show them that you truly love them.”

At the same time I want it to last for a while longer. So I can have more time with those I care about.

You shouldn’t need a specific time of year to show love and gratitude. You shouldn’t need to give people ‘things’. Giving your time is the most precious thing you can give anyone.

You will never be able to get that time back. You can’t take it back to a store and return it because you don’t like it.

It is gone, forever. Part of your life that is irreversibility invested into something or someone.

How better to show someone you love them then by giving them part of your life?

That is why family time for me is more important than giving someone an object. I would rather have memories of playing Cards Against Humanity, or Buzz Word, or hiking, learning archery, cooking dinner, any number of activities.

I would rather have memories than things.

Post 0102: Sleepless Night

Standard

It is almost 5 in the morning. And still I’m not all that tired. By the time I am finished writing I’m sure it will be closer to 6.

I have finished Mocking Jay. I can’t say that I am really satisfied with the ending. There are so many questions left unanswered. Though in a way it is a very realistic ending. No one would ever be the same after going through events like that.

And though I am not glad that Katniss continued to have nightmares and to struggle with the emotional and mental ramifications of her ordeal, it is a real life ending. It makes her human and someone, at least I myself, can identify with.

In a way I also think the only person she could have ever ended up with was Peeta, since he is the only other person to have gone through the ordeal with her.

Overall not a bad book series, though I can’t say it is my favorite. I’m not sure what I will start next. I have my Buddhism book, though it is not an audio book, so I cannot listen to it while I stitch.

I think I might listen to Game of Thrones next. We’ll see.

I’m supposed to see Allison today. She’s one of the few people from high school I still talk to. And the only female friend I had for years until a few girls from college wormed their way in.

I used to think of her as my best friend and in a way she still is. I have had experiences with her that cannot be replaced by anyone else, but as far as closeness and understanding, I feel I have a deeper connection with Mother Earth now.

It makes me wonder if that’s because I stay in touch so little with Allison now. And I am a little disappointed in myself for that. I feel in some ways I am very much like my father. If people aren’t in my immediate physical world I tend to lapse in my communication with them.

Work always seems so much more pressing. Deadlines I have to meet, assignments that need to be finished. There’s no time for a quick message here. A phone conversation there.

It’s hard enough to do the things I need to do, let alone socializing on top of that.

That’s how my brain rationalizes it. I’m so busy.

Yet I think about the hours I have played Warcraft these past few weeks and I know that deep down that I’m lying to myself.

The real answer is that most of the time I don’t feel like talking. I don’t feel like being social. I feel like a dark little gremlin in a cave, hiding in the gloom behind a rock, hissing at people if they get too close.

Or a finicky cat, only interested in being petted on my own terms.

It’s not very fair to the relationship, and now I’m left wondering how I have any friends at all.

I had just come to terms with my slight anxiety over seeing Allison for lunch when I got a text message from her. She is at her grandparents’ house for the holidays. Her mom, and I believe her dad as well, are both in town. The whole family, together.

They really want to see me. They think of me as their ‘other daughter’. And I love them dearly. But I was not expecting my day to be so social. It is a much bigger event that I thought it would be, and I am not sure if I am ready for so much.

There will be so many questions.

Why did I cut my hair? What have I been up to? How is work? Do I have anything planned for the new year?

I don’t have gifts for anyone. What if they give me something? I have nothing to offer in return. I’ll feel so terrible and out of place even though I know that is not what they intend.

It will be the first time that I meet Bob, Allison’s boyfriend. I’m not sure if they are engaged. I don’t think they are. I think I would remember something like that.

I’m trying not to think about tomorrow. But I feel that is one of the reasons I am still awake. Worry.

Pointless, silly worry.

But those thoughts are there, and they won’t settle down and be still. They keep dancing, swirling, running up and down my arms keeping me up. And so I have stitched and listened to my book.

I finished the small cross-stitch I had with me. The New Year sampler from 2014. It took me a year to get around to stitching it, but at least I finished it this year. I’ve even started stitching Jace’s present, though I am missing several threads for it.

I suppose I can buy those on my way to see Allison. My treat for being strong and not backing out of seeing her. I can’t do that. This is my only chance. I don’t know when the next time will be. I have to take this opportunity even though it is so much more than what I thought it would be.

Not a small quiet thing. But a large, full day, full of people, new people, and so many questions.

I’m making it worse than what it will be. I’m focusing on the things that bother me, that dig at me and make me want to hide.

I need to focus on my breathing. I need to focus on the calm.

Running would help I think, but dawn is still a few hours away. I suppose after this I’ll go back to stitching. Focusing on how the treads cross. Figuring out which stitch to do next. What the best path would be to take with a certain color.

Something quiet. Something internal.

I can see my four year old inside me, holding her teddy bear, looking up at me with pleading eyes, begging to not have to do it. I wish I understood this aspect of myself better.

I had a pretty fantastic day today. Mom and I got the car from the mechanic. They replaced the gearshift, and everything works fine now. So no need to worry about mom getting stranded somewhere.

We had Moe’s for lunch, which is ‘our’ place.

I normally have a special place associated with specific people. Everyone has a song. A color. Different things that remind me of them.

While I share Moe’s with several people, or will recommend going there to friends, it will always be my mom’s place.

I went to Walmart at 6 to get a bag and tissue paper for Joey’s gift, and then met with him at 6:30 for Waffle House.

The food was amazing. And the conversation was great. He loved his gift, which made me happy.

We have plans to meet Friday night, so Katy and I can finally meet each other. It’s odd that Joey is married but I have never even said hello to his wife. I think I will be ok with that encounter though.

I had a message from my dad today. Just a quick little text. This is the most that we have been in contact with each other in years. I’m not sure how I feel about it. At the moment I feel as if my hairs are on end. I’m not defensive or anything. But I am extremely aware. Cautious. Tense, I think, is another word I would use to describe this feeling.

I’m waiting, for something. But I don’t know what. Waiting to see what happens I guess.

I went out and got my mom and I mocha frappe-ajlfkjdaitjoitanl, or whatever they are called.

I’m left thinking of the Dunken Dounut commercial… “My mouth can’t form these words.”

It is some chocolate coffee drink from McDonald’s that my mom really likes. Honestly I wanted one, and I told her that if she wanted one I would go get them. Otherwise I would just stay at home and suffer… in silence…

I admitted that really, I just wanted her to be my enabler.

She was more than happy to give me a reason to go get them. I can always count on mom. ; )

I came back, we chatted for a while. I got the text from Allison. Then mom went to bed, and I stayed up, antsy. Listening to my book and stitching to pass the time and to try to make myself tired, but to no avail.

I replied to a few WordPress posts, and re-watched a presentation I did several months ago. Even now my words still speak to me.

Am I happy?

I think so. I think I’m happier than what I was.

Am I where I want to be?

I don’t know. I suppose I’ll never know if I never give myself a destination.

Where do I want to be?

Safe.

Not having to think about moving in April.

Financially stable.

Content. With myself. With life.

I have given myself goals, but I still have no real end goal.

I have been thinking about the third degree that I want. The Computer Software Engineering degree. I have been thinking about switching it for a teaching degree. So I could teach on the high school level. At least I think that’s how it would work. I honestly know very little about it. I would have to dig around and research.

I want my hand tattoos so badly as well. I’m so close to being able to get them. So incredibly close to reaching those goals.

I don’t have much else to write about. And at the moment I feel tired, calming for having written, but I worry that when I lay down the questions will start looping again.

I have gotten better about being able to still them. But sometimes they still win. I don’t want them to win today.

And though I want sleep, I don’t want vivid dreams. Like the last one I had.

I think sleep will win right now. But I don’t know. And I’m left tired but still on edge. I don’t know what to do to ease it.

I wish I were able to end this on a better note. But all I feel is uncertainty. I won’t know until I try, but part of me doesn’t want to. Maybe it would just be easier to be super tired. Keep stitching and finish another project. Or stay awake until I can run and hope the exercise sooths this discord inside me.

Maybe I’ll find peace by cuddling with Scarlet for a little while.

Post 0101: Daily Prompt – The Language of Things

Standard

“You have to write a message to someone dear to you, telling that person how much he/she means to you.

However — instead of words, you can only use 5-10 objects to convey your emotions. Which objects do you choose, and what do they mean?.”

This is a prompt from a while ago. I have been thinking about it, and I really want to do this for two people. John, my younger brother, and Sammie, my Mother Earth.

John
5 objects I would use to let you know that I love you.

Magic Cards

For all the times that we played together, or built decks. For the times we went to the Flee Market and bought cards. The times we went to the Chinese place and played for hours. For all the times that we fought over rules, and all the times that I singled you out and killed you first because you were my brother. And because if I didn’t you would steam roll everyone with your fucking Broodstar. I still think using artifacts is cheating and I hope that deck rots in hell. <3

A guard flag

For all of the band practices that we shared together in high school. Because I know how much you loved performing, and even though I don’t think I showed it as much as I should or could have, that I was so proud of you when you joined the guard and did something that you were truly passionate about. For doing what you wanted, regardless of what other people said, and for being amazing at it.

A World of Warcraft time card

Because that is one of our unifying factors now. We spend time on there together and it makes it feel like you’re near me even though you are so incredibly far away.

Sushi / hot wings

Because I love all of the times we have gone out together to have super secret conversations that only we can understand. Things that we aren’t able to talk about with mom or even our closest friends. Because I love the time we spend together listening to each other, reaffirming that even though we were terrible to each other growing up, that we still love and care about each other enough to listen when the other person is talking.

A squirrel stuffed animal

Because of that time that you ran into a tree. You will never live it down. Ever. Just like you’ll never be able to escape my love for you. You’re one of the best people in my life, even if you are still insanely frustrating some times.

I love you more than words can say, more than objects can represent.

You are that annoying ray of sunshine shinning in my eyes on a Saturday morning that won’t let me sleep in. So fucking annoying, but I love you so damn much. Stay awesome, you, and know that I’ve already started a countdown for next holiday break so I can see you again.

Mother Earth

My center in all of the chaos I put myself through. I feel like you are part of me. That we understand each other so much that we might as well be related on some level, and maybe spiritually we are.

These are the objects I would use to show my love.

A fry cutter

Because it’s still the coolest kitchen gadget I have ever seen (sad but true) and because we could use it to make amazing zucchini fries that we most likely wouldn’t share with anyone. : D

Pillows

So we could be comfy while we talk for hours about everything and nothing, or simply just chill in the same room together needing no words at all to enjoy the peace we bring to each other just by being close.

Publix food

Because I know you must be dying in Texas without it. I’m so sorry that your state is inhuman. Just another reason why you should move back to Florida. : p

Zucchini brownies

Not that I’m obsessed with zucchini or anything… But you seemed to like the brownies so much and it made me so happy that you enjoyed them. I loved seeing you happy and making you smile. And I loved being able to enjoy them with you.

A little red toy truck

Because I loved going grocery shopping with you and Josh, squished into your truck, so close and safe. I loved how we would get a treat either before or after our shopping. How it was our little ’secret’. The amazing ice cream bars or the candy apples we got during Halloween. When we went to Denny’s, and Sir was annoyed because we took so long to get back. How Josh and I would put the groceries away together in the kitchen. And all of it started by the three of us climbing into your truck.

You are such an amazing person and I really think I found Sir because I was truly meant to find you and Josh. You are both such a positive influence in my life and I am so honored to be able to call both of you my friends.

I will always be your little Earth Dragon, no matter where you go. : )

Post 0100: Figuring out the new piece

Standard

It is freezing in the house. I totally didn’t want to crawl out from under the blanket. Scarlet was even curled up with me, being a personal space heater under the comforter.

I’m awake though, and after a little while I got up. Still no coffee in my system. Sort of thinking about running up to the store since I’m going to be sticking around here until the weekend.

That would at least give me something to do in the morning. Some small routine to cling to. And caffeine… Sweet, sweet caffeine.

So with all of the writing that I’ve done the past two days, I never explained the issue with my mom’s car. At least not the story of what happened with it Sunday.

We made the call Friday to have the car looked at Monday, so we were going to drop it off at our mechanics shop Sunday night after my mom got off of work.

Well Saturday night was the whole situation with Warren, which left me emotional raw and unable to sleep. I was still awake when my mom left for work.

About 10 minutes after she left she came back into the house and said that the car wouldn’t shift out of park, and could I take her to work. We went out and tried getting the car to shift again and it wouldn’t work.

Thinking about how much of a hassle it would be for my mom and myself, dropping her off in downtown Charleston traffic, trying to find a spot to pick her up, having her stand out in the rain while we try to find each other, I asked if she just wanted to borrow my car for the day.

Her car is usually fine once the air warms up, so it’s not like I would be without a car, eventually, and I was already planning of not hanging out with Joey for breakfast. The lack of sleep, all of the emotions… There wasn’t a way that I would be worth anything as social companion. And I know he would pick up on the fact that something was off with me.

I so was not in the mood or ready to talk about what happened with Warren and I.

Mom agreed to take my car. I felt bad because I told her it needed gas. I had planned to fill up on the way to breakfast. There was no way it would get her to work without running dry.

She said that was fine and that she super appreciated being able to use my “adorable car.”

So mom goes off to work, I come back inside and curl up in bed, warm, surrounded by darkness, exhausted, and continue to emotionally process the tangle inside me.

About thirty minutes later I got a text message from my mom saying that she wasn’t on the schedule to work at the hospital today because it was the holidays. Since she picked up Christmas day she had Sunday off.

So that entire headache to get her to work and it was her day off. XD

She did say that she totally had no problem filing up my car. I guess it only took $18. I love my car so much.

I was passed out by the time she came home, but once I woke up we agreed that we aught to try to get the car to Henry’s, our mechanic, rather than having him tow it.

Eventually, after we had pretty much given up, the car shifted into reverse and we dashed off to get the car to the shop.

So it should be getting looked over shortly. We were told it would be about a 3 hour job, so we should have it back, in tip top shape, by the end of the day.

Oh, Life. What a sense of humor you have.

Joey and I reschedule breakfast for dinner tonight. We haven’t agreed on where or when, but I’m hoping for Waffle House, and it will have to be after 6 since he works this morning.

I finished off his cross-stitch. Finally. I can take that off of my list. I finished the Summer cross stitch too. I’m going to try to go to the library and see if I can’t get a scanned image of both of them.

There’s another super small cross-stitch that I might do before starting Jace’s. I haven’t made up my mind yet. Those are the only two projects that I have with me to work on.

Now that I think of it though, the only other unfinished project I have is the Tiger at home. So I’m doing really well at getting caught back up to ground zero.

I haven’t read more in my book, but I listened to a lot of Mocking Jay yesterday. I think I have about 10 chapters left. They just got attacked by the Game Makers in the Capital. So things are getting tense. It was hard to put the book down.

I’ve been thinking about what happened with Warren.

We texted a little bit yesterday. I started off with saying that I didn’t think I would be able to do anything with him and Amber. And that I was sorry.

If I couldn’t handle the situation with just him then I don’t want to get someone else involved. It’s supposed to be a warm experience. I don’t want my insecurities to blemish the experience for Amber. She deserves for it to be pure.

I think the main issue came from my need for the event to be cathartic, and Warren’s need for it to be more of a revelation.

He needed for it to be solitary afterwards, a chance to reflect and to see how the situation aligned within himself. He needed to focus on himself.

Looking back at it, I actually feel it was wrong of me to want the closeness. I was expecting something, and I shouldn’t have. I should have had the mindset of providing him with what he needed. I was putting my needs first, and honestly what I wanted wasn’t really a need.

When we had been cuddling on the couch, that had been amazing for me. I wanted that moment to last. That was what I was craving. When I cried and explained the hurt from Jarrett while he held me I had a sense of healing. Of accepting that there could be affection without sex. Just like before.

Maybe it would have been better if we hadn’t had sex. But it’s something in the past, and wondering how it could have been different is a bit of a waste of energy. We can’t change it, and I don’t think I would really want to.

We both found out things about where we currently are in life. And while it hurt a lot afterwards, I think I’m ok.

I think realizing that it truly wasn’t intentional hurt on his part helps a lot. It really seems to be a sensitivity that as developed due to previous experiences with other people. It is a trigger within myself. Something I should be conscious of, aware.

In the text messages Warren asked if I was ok. And I answered honestly by saying that I didn’t know. I hurt, but I knew that it wasn’t his intention, and that I was sorry for that, too.

He also apologized. For a while we were silent, then I asked if he was ok.

He said yeah he thought so.

I asked about Amber.

He said she was fine aside from still feeling sick. I guess she has the head cold that is going around. Which is another reason why I haven’t seen her. None of us wants me to get sick… again…

I still don’t really know where that leaves me. I still feel like I have a puzzle piece in my hands and I haven’t placed yet. Something hasn’t clicked inside me though I think realizing the differences in our needs is a step in the right direction.

The pain is gone, so I am left wondering if the feeling of being wounded was real. I’m not used to pain going away so fast. But it feels like it was there. If feels like there is a new band of scar tissue over my heart. Very faint, like it has been healed for years, but how is that possible? I only received it two days ago.

It’s odd. I don’t think I have any memories of a situation like this. Of something healing so fast. Does it have to do with how I have reconciled the event in my mind? Is it because I seem to have come to terms with it so fast? Does that prevent the emotions from getting a foothold and infecting my spirit?

It is curious and another thing I am pondering over.

If coming to terms with an event is the key to recovery then maybe I can really be ok. Maybe all of those subconscious thoughts of always being broken are wrong. Maybe I really will be able to drive this poison out.

Right now when I think about my inner spirit I get a picture of myself, circles under my eyes, sitting in a wheel chair, a hospital gown draped over my hunched form. I look sick, ill.

I think of myself as an invalid. That is the image I have of myself.

I know that’s not what other people see. But that is what I feel. That is what I wake up to in the morning, what I fall asleep to at night. This feeling that without extreme care and attention that I might slip away, unable to fend off this sickness eating away at me.

I feel like this vacation was my checking myself into the hospital. Me acknowledging that I need help, I need to heal.

I’m supposed to be a warrior. I’m supposed to be strong, a fighter. Not weak and frail.

Which makes me think of what the term warrior actually means for me.

I have fought for so long, I have gathered so many wounds, and maybe I use that word to freely. Maybe the imagery for that word is too much. I have scraps and bruises to go with the slash marks. Some things have hurt worse than others. Not everything was fatal. Not everything is an infected, oozing gash.

In fact, very little of my marks are in that state anymore. This journey has been something going on for about a year. I feel I have made incredible progress, especially because I remember how low I was when I dated Warren #2.

I remember when he said he was embarrassed to be seen in public with me. How because I was overweight and he knew that bothered people, that people thought I was ugly and unattractive, that it bothered him.

I remember how it felt to legitimately be suicidal. I remember how low I felt, how completely, utterly alone.

I remember how sitting still took so much energy. I remember how it felt like nothing else existed. I would see the cars driving under the bridge I was standing on and not thinking of the people in the cars. There were no other people. I was alone. Alone with what felt like us unbearable hurt. Betrayal.

I had thought he loved me. But my very existence brought him dishonor.

It didn’t matter that I was going to the gym. I didn’t matter that I had already lost 10 pounds.

None of it matter. He said I wasn’t doing good enough. I wasn’t good enough. Just like when my dad had left. It had been my fault. It was always me. Something about me was always wrong.

Too needy. Too quiet. Too ugly.

None of my effort matter. It was never good enough.

That was what was in my head. Those were the thoughts surrounding me. Whispering between my ears. Voices that only I could hear. Destroying me. And I would smile and say I was fine when someone asked how I was.

I would lie even as I was crumbling on the inside, alone, and no one knew.

And all of those years ago I remember fighting, with myself. I wouldn’t give up on myself even though part of me had. Half of me, standing there, lifeless, accepting that everything was pointless. That if only the fence over the bridge wasn’t in the way, I could just end it and not have to keep struggling to fill my lungs with air. All of that effort for a pointless act that meant nothing.

I remember screaming at myself in my head, forcing myself to wake up. Forcing myself to shower. Forcing myself to eat. I was not going to die. I was not going to give Warren #2 that satisfaction.

I fought.

I fought so hard to claw my way out of that darkness. Broken. Bloody. Dying.

Furious.

I would not die. I would fight. And I would win.

And I did.

I am here. And while I may still feel like I am weak and frail. While I may still have issues and wounds to heal from Warren #2, and now Jarrett and Sir as well, I know where I started, and I know that even in my current state, I’m really not all that bad, and I am doing amazing.

In my head, when I think of myself as a warrior I think of my Gaelic roots. I think of a physically fit, powerful fighter. Confident. Self assured. Ready and willing to fight any enemy without hesitation. A bow over my shoulder, a sword at my hip, my falcon on my arm as I stand in front of an Elder tree, my long waist length curls braided loosely down my back.

It is such a stark image compared to my wheel chaired self.

I am taking steps to get there. My ideal self.

It is not unattainable. But it will take time. More time.

And that’s ok. I have years of situations to work through. Things from my childhood, things from my dad, things from exs. It’s not meant to be a fun or enjoyable process. Healing never is.

It’s long, most of the time slow, and frustrating because you want to be cured now. Right now.

But if this past event with Warren #1 is anything to go off of, it’s that even though it hurts, things can completely heal. It’s not a lost cause.

I’m not a lost cause.

I make mistakes. I make choices that sometimes don’t have the outcomes that I thought they would.

I still love myself.

I have been listening to Sinking Stone on repeat for a while, and I honestly didn’t know why. It’s not a song I have associated with anyone, but it has been speaking to me so strongly.

I think, now, after having written, it is me talking to myself.

Yes. I can love you again. Our love is not a sinking stone.

And I think the puzzle piece I have been fidgeting with just clicked into place. One step, one piece, closer to me.

Post 0099: Weekly Recap – To Vegas and Back Again

Standard

I am conscious of how this is an ending post, and how 99 is an ending number. A number right before a turning, a new start. And that my nest post will be the first post of a new week, another new beginning.

I went back and read all of my posts from the beginning of my trip to now. Two weeks worth of writing. So much has happened. A lot of it was emotional.

I drove home, and broke down when I turned onto the parkway leading to my mom’s house. An event I have associated with the beginning of my spiritual healing.

I flew out to Vegas and spend an amazing week and a half with my family, taking pictures, going hiking, learning archery, getting sick. We watched Maleficent and played games. We cooked and ate amazing food.

I didn’t go to LA, and I am a little sad that I again will not see some of my best friends from college, but I have accepted it.

John and Nathan are getting a divorce, which I think is the best thing for them.

And I had a dream in which my emotional confusion is what led to the destruction of a romantic relationship.

I turned 26 this week. I had tons of messages on Facebook from so many people. My dad even sent me a text message. Sammie left me the most amazing voice mail saying how she was so happy that I was a part of her life, and we had a fantastic conversation on the phone later that day.

It made me realize how happy I am that she is in my life, too.

I have been spending a lot of time with my mom, not really doing much of anything other than existing in the same environment together. I will be staying here until the coming weekend, after Christmas.

Jarrett is being amazingly nice to me. I had a text message from his as well on my birthday saying he hoped I had a great day and explaining the situation with the bills and how he would have money for me when I got back into town.

His birthday is tomorrow. I hope it is a good day for him.

I saw Warren on my birthday, which has a whole post onto itself. I feel I have come to a conclusion about last night. I think we have both completely moved past the physically romantic aspect of our relationship. I think we both realize that we are now friends, and that the level of intimacy we had last night, which on a physical level, can be done, it is not what we truly need from each other.

It is not what our relationship is about anymore, and I think if we pressed it we would actually be causing damage to each other.

He said that why it felt good, he doesn’t think he wants a polyamorous relationship. He doesn’t think he could enjoy being with another person the way he enjoys being with Amber.

I respect that. Even understand it.

He asked me if I was ok. And I said that I honestly didn’t know. That I felt hurt, but that I knew that was neither of our intentions. I am feeling better. I am figuring out where the hurt is stemming from, why it’s there, and realizing it, acknowledging it makes it easier for me to sooth the hurt.

I was unable to sleep last night due to the feelings from my evening with Warren, which cased me to rain check my breakfast with Joey. We have plans for dinner tomorrow night. Hopefully still at Waffle House because I was actually looking forward to that.

Allision is in town, Mandie wants to hang out, and Nasse would like to hang out one last time before I leave for Orlando. Warren may want to hang out one last time to reaffirm that things between us are legitimately ok and that I’m not lying about my feelings.

It’s so frustrating to have people who know me so well. I should text him back and say something like, “Get out of my head Charles.”

On top of all of that I also did a few of the daily prompts.

Feeling Fancy          All Or Nothing          In Due Time

Sweet Little Lies

Its pretty crazy to look back and realize how much has happened on an emotional level in the past two weeks. No wonder I have been so low key these past few days. I was starting to get frustrated with myself. But after re-reading my blog posts, I actually wouldn’t be surprised if I took a few more days to fully recoup.

Tomorrow is a new day. A new week. A new start.

I’m glad that it feels like I’m going to be making it a fresh, clean one.

Post 0098: Put up or shut up

Standard

There was a moment before I started blogging where I thought about not doing it. I had deleted the blog I had with Sir because it felt wrong to continue using something that was supposed to represent an extension of our relationship. An extension of something that had died.

There was a moment where I thought about going back to the Google Doc system that I had. A small, private outlet for my thoughts. White pages no one would ever see. Thoughts no one would ever hear.

I thought about not doing it because I was scared about other people reading what I wrote. I was scared about receiving attention. And I was scared of what people would think of me.

I make mistakes. I mess up and make bad choices. I do silly things. And then there are the emotional battles that I am working through. Self acceptance, confidence, finding peace and happiness. The struggles I have with work or people in my life.

Personal matters.

Not all of my posts would be simple recaps of my day to day life. Some posts would be filled with pain as I worked through an emotional or spiritual issue. Some of the posts would be hard to write, and even harder to re-read, trying to understand my thoughts and emotions.

Some of my posts would make people look at me in a different light. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. I would have opinions that not everyone would agree with. There was the possibility that people would speak out against me. Could I handle negative feedback on things which I viewed as extremely personal? Things that were extremely close to my core?

Could I handle such an intimate part of myself being so accessible to strangers, because for me, there is nothing more personal and a person’s mind.

I made this blog. I made the choice that it was for me. That writing is good for me, for my spirit, and that, yes, I could handle it. I made the choice that somewhere out there on the other side of my computer screen, there may be a person who gains something from my experiences.

That is knowing. And knowing is not the same as experiencing. Knowledge is not the same as wisdom.

I have had a few posts in which I have struggled with my emotions. Posts where I have cried while I write because it hurts so much to let the emotions out, rather than bottling them up, forcing them down so they don’t choke me as they get caught in my throat.

But those posts, as hard as they were pale in comparison to what I want to write about now. And I am left facing the fact that this will change who I am to some people.

This is the moment where I choose if I am serious about my blog being for me, for my well being, or about the image I show to the world.

In a way, this is the moment where I either put up, or shut up. I either post, or I don’t.

Some people will understand, empathize even. And others won’t, and will see me as tarnished. Low in moral character. Dishonorable. And that makes me hurt because the only thing I strive for, the only thing that truly matters to me, is to represent myself in such a way that I honor my goddess and family.

I am not dishonorable. But because my views are so vastly different from society, there is this feeling that I should feel like I am. It sparks confusion inside me and it makes it hard to understand if I am a good person or not.

And I am left facing the fact that I can either write about it, explain myself, my actions, exposing this inner conflict so it has a chance to heal, or I can keep it inside and let it eat away at me, like I have let other things do for so long. Corroding away at my very being, leaving me weak and frail.

I suppose I could write, and not post, but I feel that would be a form of dishonor in itself. My thoughts should not be censored. If I write then it deserves to be posted. No thought is better or worse than any other. All of them deserve the same treatment.

And so here I am. Writing. Wondering where I will be after this. How I will feel. How many people will be disappointed, angry, and how many people will understand and feel, as I feel, the confusion of life being gray?

Always this gray.

Even as a child, young, I knew things were not black and white. I knew no one was every truly bad. That even bad guys had reasons for why they did the things they did.

I am not a bad guy. I am no villain. In fact I have done nothing wrong to anyone, I don’t think even to myself. But the results were not what I was expecting.

I feel I have learned something. And I’m not sure where that leaves me. I don’t know what to do with this knowledge.

I feel life has handed me something. But I don’t know what it is. I haven’t connected the path inside my mind. So I am left staring at the object in my hands, blankly, uncomprehending.

I suppose the best thing to do is to state facts and to hope that as immoral as some of them may seem, that through explaining the situation, clarity is established.

I had sex with Warren last night.

Amber knows about it. Even encouraged it.

When I first messaged Warren about hanging out I mentioned that it was ok if he didn’t want to do anything sexual. When we met last night he said that Amber had pouted a little saying, “But what if I want it to be sexual?”

I know for many people that this may seem wrong. An engaged couple ‘should not’ be inviting another person into their relationship. I ‘should not’ be sleeping with an ex who is in a relationship.

Most people would ask “How can a relationship function in such a way?”

Warren and I have known each other for over 10 years. We dated for 5. We have had sex before, after our break up, when we were both single. This is the first time we have been intimate while one of us was in a relationship.

When I was dating Warren we never fought. At least, when we did fight, it was only ever over one thing. I was sexually adventurous and wanted to experience other partners. Girls and guys. Normally people that we both cared about, never strangers.

I didn’t want to sneak around and cheat on him. I wanted him to want to experience other people, too. I didn’t know at the time that there was a term for this. I didn’t know that in some social circles that this was acceptable and understood.

All I knew at the time was that internally I didn’t feel that what I desired was wrong. For me it felt natural. I wasn’t being dishonest about my feelings. I wasn’t hiding anything. I was openly communicating with my significant other so we could possibly find something that would work for both of us.

It wasn’t so much an open relationship, which is a common term now, as being polyamorous.

I feel that we are able to love more than one person. I love all of my family members. And when Jace was born, my nephew, I didn’t lose love for anyone who was currently in my life. Instead, I gained more love. Love that was purely for him.

Loving Jace does not affect my relationship with my mom, my brother, my sister in law, or the relationship I have with my goddess.

Jace is his own, adorable, two-year-old person, and the emotions and relationship I have with him is something unique and his alone.

I feel this can work in romantic relationships as well, as long as everyone involved supports that type of relationship.

I know it is not for everyone, and I know it is extremely hard for most people to understand such a concept because it is so against everything that society seems to dictate.

Warren was never interested in having other partners. And so there was a disconnect in that area of our relationship. I would not do something that I knew would harm him, would undermine our relationship. And so part me of was left feeling unaccepted and misunderstood.

I did not have a relationship with a girl until after we had broken up.

Amber is much the same as I am. She is also attracted to females, which is something Warren, on his own, is not able to fulfill for her.

I can remember the phone call where Warren explained to me that Amber wanted an open relationship so she could explore that side of her sexuality.

The only fights that we had ever had were over this very subject, and here Warren was, asking for my advice, asking me questions on what it meant for me, explaining his emotions, hang ups, and reservations about stepping into the one thing he had refused to try with me.

It made me smile actually. Because I found it so funny how life works in weird ways. I was never angry or resentful about Amber having something I never did with Warren.

In fact I was happy. Happy that he loved her enough to try to do something he was uncomfortable with. Trying to stretch outside of his comfort zone. Happy that he trusted me enough to express his emotions, and valued my opinion enough to ask me for help and advice.

I have not been intimate with Amber. I would want to spend time with her first. Sexual experiences for me are about the connection I have with a person. It is more about the intimacy and the closeness rather than the actual act of sex. In fact I find touching and caressing more intimate.

Truly touching a person, having them realize that you see them, feel them, acknowledge them as more than just a body, that there is a mind, a nervous system, a feeling, breathing creature on the other end of your fingertips, is a powerful thing.

So no, I have never been with Amber, and we have never shared a connection like that before. And the first step to moving towards something like that would be to put both of us at ease. Like going out to a bookstore, or some other introvert friendly activity. Not jumping into the deep end and hoping we know how to swim.

Warren and I, however, have years of history.

Amber, wanting to experiment with other people, said that it was only fair that Warren be allowed to do the same.

Since Amber and I are curious about each other, and Warren and I already have an understanding of where our relationship is now, I am actually a pretty good candidate for what they want to try.

I have no designs on Warren, and I love Amber as a close friend. I would only want to give her pleasure, and honestly expect nothing in return. I want her to be able to experience her body to the fullest, in a safe and caring way. Not tarnished by obligations or expectations of a selfish partner.

Amber worked last night, so I did not get to see her. But she knew I was coming to hang out with Warren, and knew that there was a chance, though it was not planned, that things could become sexual.

She was ok with it. And like I said earlier, even encouraged Warren.

I went over to his house with wings, and we ate while watching some new professional gaming thing. I guess Blizzard is coming out with their own version of League of Legends. It was interesting to watch, and we ended up talking about games for a while.

We talked about relationships. About my breakup with Sir. How I shaved my head as a symbolic way to return to my roots. We talked about him and Amber. We talked about how I feel broken, and about my experience with Ari.

We talked about his work, his schooling. We talked about finances and personality types. All sorts of things.

We talked for a really long time.

He said he wasn’t sure if he would be able to do anything. He wasn’t sure if he would feel bad about it, guilty, like he was cheating even though he had permission. I told him that it honestly wasn’t sex that I wanted, but affection. How I didn’t feel attractive and that though I wanted to be touched the thought of someone seeing me, even him, bothered me.

We cuddled for a while on the couch, and I cried because of how small and broken I felt on the inside. He held me like he used to when we dated and made me feel safe while I struggled with the hurt I felt, the hurt that my other relationships inflicted.

It felt nice to be touched, and on a physical level it was what I remember.

But on a spiritual level I think we wounded each other.

The connection that we used to have isn’t there anymore. The sex was purely physical, and for us, that meant it was hallow. It left both of us empty.

He was struggling with his own thoughts, which made him distant, and I could feel that, which left me feeling alone and cold.

I know it was not intentional on Warren’s part. I know he wasn’t trying to trigger anything inside me. But I still feel cold and empty in my chest, my heart chakra. It was really hard to not cry afterwards because I wanted to be held. I wanted to feel safe, warm, and loved.

But that was something he couldn’t do. He needed space to think.

The distance hurt.

It still does.

I messaged him this morning saying I didn’t think I would be able to do anything with him and Amber. I feel very withdrawn. I feel wounded. Which isn’t how I thought I would feel.

As I said, we have had sex before. Since our breakup. And there had still been a connection. Not the same as when we had dated, but some level of chemistry.

I don’t know. I’m not a scientist where I can explain it away through chemicals in our brains, or some divine spiritual leader where I can say our souls touched or something like that.

But there has always been something between Warren and I. Just like there will always be something between Jarrett and I. But last night was the first time where it felt like Warren pulled away from me. Withheld himself from me even though I was open and accepting of him.

Honestly, I felt used.

And I hate it because I know that it has nothing to do with him, and everything to do with my past. The very thing I’m supposed to be moving on from. It is still eating away at me.

All those experiences and emotions welling up now with a person I thought I was safe with. A person I thought I would never have to worry about feeing accepted by.

But now I do.

Now I have the same hurt associated with him. And I am left struggling to figure out what to do.

We haven’t talked yet. And I feel that we need to.

I care too much about him, about Amber, and about my friendship with both of them to allow my mind to sabotage my friendship with either of them.

I didn’t think last night would be such a negative experience for me. One of the things Warren mentioned while we were talking was how he thought it might be good for me to see a physiatrist. That they might be able to help me understand what I am feeling, truly feeling, about my past.

I wonder if he is right.

I did not expect last night to form a new wound for me. I thought it would be beneficial to both of us. It would allow Warren to test the idea of being polyamorous with someone who he trusted and was safe with.

It would allow me to be intimate and close to someone I felt safe with.

We were both supposed to be safe.

And yet here I sit. Feeling injured. Feeling wounded and bleeding.

I learned that it isn’t sex that I want. Though on a level I think I already knew that.

It’s companionship.

There’s nothing else to write. All that’s left is to post.

Post 0097: Daily Prompt – Sweet Little Lies

Standard

“As kids, we’re told, time and again, that lying is wrong. Do you believe that’s always true? In your book, are there any exceptions?”

It took me a while to think on this one.

In my head, lying is wrong. End of story.

So if that’s how I truly feel, then why do I still do it?

I don’t flat out lie. I like to think for the most part I am an extremely honest person.

However, when someone asks me, “How are you?” Why do I answer with, “Fine,” or, “I’m great.” When sometimes I’m not.

How can I stand in front of someone I care about, or a stranger I don’t even know, and disrespect them by lying when the honest answer is sometimes it feels like I’m dying on the inside and I have no idea how I am holding myself together. Sometimes I don’t know how I am keeping myself from breaking into millions of pieces.

How is it ok to lie then, about my feelings, but it’s not ok to lie about something else, like why I was late for work.

I don’t have to give anyone a blow by blow account of why I feel overwhelmed, or what is bothering me. But I should respect them enough to say, “Today is sort of rough.”

See? There.

I just did it in a make believe conversation. I didn’t gab details, but I clearly stated that things aren’t as awesome as they could be. So why haven’t I been doing that my whole life?

A lie is a lie. No one can make good, informed decisions if they have miss information.

“Does this outfit look good?”

If you say yes, when in truth, it doesn’t, then you are doing a disservice to your friend. Disrespecting them by thinking they will be unable to handle the emotional ramifications of an honest answer.

You are leading them to believe something is ok, when really it’s not, so if they go forward and then get a truthful answer from someone else, they will feel betrayed by you, which could undermine their opinion of you, and even damage the relationship.

If you do not have trust, you have no foundation for interaction. Everything is built on trust. So if they really matter to you then you should be honest with them.

It is a different matter entirely if they are not looking for a truthful answer. If they are merely looking for lip service. I feel that in itself is wrong, because it is devaluing your true opinion. They are not asking for what you really think, which in my mind is rude.

Truth is truth. It is unbiased, and knows no emotion.

It simply is. It exists.

It is up to each of us to either except it or not. Either way, the truth will not change, or care about how we feel. It will continue going on, being true.

Lying about something is just putting a mask or band aid over a situation. Eventually it will come off, and the longer it is left on, the more infection can be allowed to sit and fester.

Sometimes to the point where the damage is too great, too vast. There is no salvaging what is underneath the lie anymore.

So, after much thought and inner searching, no. I do not think white lies are ok.

I believe it is a Russian proverb which states, “I would rather be slapped with the truth, than kissed with a lie.”

I would like to have the respect be told the truth, no matter what it is. And I will work harder on my part to respect the people around me by also giving them the truth.

No more white lies.
